Question about 1994 Toyota Tercel

1 Answer

94 tercel dies.....a lot

It takes a while to crank up at times and then once it does i have to quickly put it in reverse (sometimes it dies when i do this) then while trying to stop the brakes are often hard to get to work well then i put it in drive (will die sometimes) and i usually then have to floor it to keep it alive and to actually go acceleration is awful at this point also while stopped i have to keep my foot on the gas in order to keep the engine going which does not always work also i have to put a quart of oil in it around every 3 days or so if anyone has any ideas as to why it is acting up i would appreciate it i cant afford to buy a new car at the moment and this is all i have for transportation to class every day thanks!

my 94 tercel s needs to be turned over at least ten times before it starts sometimes it just starts first try and some times it won't start at all. anytime that i come to a stop if i let my foot off the gas it dies.

it does go down the highway just fine, though i can feel it running rough.

it leaks oil and antifreeze however looking at each of the fluids finds that they are not mixing.

i thought it could be a fuel flow issue and replaced the fuel pump and cpv valve to no avail.

i am open to any path forward, and thanks.

That engine is ready to die, you better check the pressure of each piston, robbably the engine needs new rings or a complete overhaull

1994 Toyota tercel dies while driving, starts when crank couple time.will run good on freeways, only dies when driving in short steets.some days wont timimng belt, reman distributor, cap, rotor wires...

have your alternator checked it sounds like its putting out low voltage you can do it you have a volt meter just hook it to the battery terminals you will be looking for a range of 13.5 volts to about 14 volts if your under thirteen its not enough voltage for the car to run and charge the battery at the same time.

1990 Chevy Van with a 350 small block that has a mind of it's own.

Try to get it running a bit to warm up the exhaust. Take a point and shoot thermometer and take the temp of the cat. If temps exceed 400 degrees I would start to suspect a plugged cat.
