Check transmission fluid level. If it's ok need to have trans fluid pressure checked. Need schematic, but should be a port on the side of trans for this. If to in depth then take it to a repair shop. Could just have a clogged trans filter.
Check fluid level with car level and idling. Level must not be to low or overfilled. These conditions could cause slipping and slow engagement. If fluid level is ok. Have fluid and filter changed. No the manual transmisson does not have a stick. on the transmisson their are two plugs. One for draining and one for filling. In order to check the fluid, pull the higher plug out and feel with a finger in that hole for fluid. To set the level to the correct level you would need to drain and refill the trans. If no leaks are present you should be OK
