Question about 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

Jetta grinding When I begin to drive my 2000 VW Jetta it is fine until I hit about 15 mph - then it grinds like it is not kicking into the next gear for a few seconds and then it finally kicks in and is fine. Not a clutch car. Can this be the transmission or the transmission oil?

Oh oh, better get the car to a transmission repair shop,
it's going to let you stranded somewhere.
the trasmission is dying.
maybe a transmisson service will do but i doubt it.

PLEASE HELP Metal grinding while driving

Sounds like the thrust bearing is worn to the bleep. Though I suspect it's not Synchromeshing. Some part of the Clutch mechanism failing critically.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manual_transmission#Synchromesh
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clutch
Did it run out of Oil? BUT then maybe damage has been done to both the internal of the Gearbox as well as the clutch, so yeah STOP driving it before more damage that can set you back a fortune

the synchros are not DIY, when they start to go it will grind when the RPMs are higher like getting on a highway, you can try double clutching and see if that helps.

I was going to replace the rear rotors and pads on my 2001 Jetta on the weekend when they began to grind when I stopped. However friday morning the brakes were soft and slow to brake. When stoping from...

The grinding sound was the metal part of the worn out pads chewing your rotors up. If the sound has stopped, then something is completely gone, probably what was left of the pads. You will most likely need new rotors, Advise you don't drive the car until the brakes are repaired.

Shop for a rebuilt transmission, or get an estimate from AAMCO for a rebuild job, but it won't be cheap. Get at least 3 estimates before you decide how to proceed. Good luck.
