Question about 1999 Mercury Villager

Knock sensor My Mechanic told me that a knock sensor would require 3-4 hours work to replace a knock sensor, because he has to take the exhaust off. Is he correct or is he overcharging me? Thank you Ben Dowler b_dowler@hotmail.com

My mechanic just told me the same thing. Said it would cost about 700.00 to fix. I can't pass the smog test without it being fixed!

To fix the knock sensor, they have to take apart half the engine (not the exhaust) to get to it and it takes about 4 hours.

Have a competent mechanic retrieve stored DTC data to find the real problem. Otherwise, you'll just be replacing parts at random.

Getting codes P0325 and P0420. Where to start?

Hi,

code P0325 is for knock sensor and it looks like is a common problem with these engines. You might need to replace the knock sensor, and this is a few hours job for a qualified mechanic. You can try first using a high grade gasoline, but I doubt it will fix the problem.
code P0420 -right bank -B1 three way catalyst function.
possible cause for P0420:
-you might have a hole in the exhaust tube
- you might have some intake air leaks
- injectors leaks
-spark plugs
check first for some damage exhaust tube.or it might be related to code p0325, as a change in timing dictated by knock sensor malfunction.
hope this will help.
Good luck.

V6 3.3L The sensor is located underneath the air intake manifold on top of the engine block. This should take an experienced mechanic about 3-4 hours to replace.

I can't find the location of the knock sensor on my 2005 chev silverado 1500 4x4 with a 5.3L engine.

Knock sensor replacement requires the removal of the intake manifold as the knock sensors are under it.
