Yes, I am. I have a 1985 740GLE with 120k original miles so it's a baby. It will do the chugging like a train, it's chugs at stop lights and seems to be slower on the take off at times. Normally once the car has been driven say for a half a day or you've made a couple of stops. My Volvo mechanic has no clue - he says the frequency is key...what the heck have I been advising him for the past 3 months....I guess I have to keep the journal and track the actual times and each instance.

1990 740 GL automatic, 147,000mi. Won't start in morning, starts in afternoon. (Mich.) Slow to fire up, and once running, won't accelerate, if you give it too much gas it really chugs and sputters. If you feather the throttle, once you start going it smooths out and runs pretty well. It stumbles when starting up from a stop, and after sitting overnight, won't start in am, afterwork when I get home, it starts up pretty quickly. I just got the car, and don't have any experience with Volvos.

Engine has trouble turning over in the AM, and then in one of the lower gears (I'm guessing 2nd) it chugs like I'm driving stick!
    That just started today.

I can get the engine to turn over if I pump the gas pedal a couple times, but this morning it took a long time to get started.

Is my car on it's last legs?

Sound like maybe a temp sensor malfunction, it is telling the computer it is warmer than it really is so it is not adding enough fuel , have the sensor tested

It could be the temp sensor, but mine turned out to be a fuel pump. The reason it didn't check that first was the guy I bought it from said he already changed it. The hose was bad on the pump, and I replaced the pump anyway.

Volvo 240 wont hold charge

if with the volt meter the amps go down while running and at increased rpms than your alternator is not charging right

try pushing the 4 wires on the radio supression relay into the connector, then try starting it... does it start, run, then die? those connectors ****, i've had the same prob. have you let it huff on some ether? (starting fluid) does it come to life? that would confirm weather or not it its fuel related. my 740 i was loosing voltage to my injectors 10 volts and under, causeing them to inttermittantly not fire, caused by a bad connection at that supression relay.

Fuel Delvery

you really need to test fuel pressure/did you replace filter under car/you should also replace fuel regulator on top frt of eng./but most likely the fuel pump has moved on the mounting bracket and allowing fuel to leak back into the tank (low pressure)
