There is two security switchs on that car,,, one its the inhibitor shiwth located in front of the transmision, near the rediator,, and the other its the neutral switch,, its located on the shifter base mechanism,, this is a microswitch device,, maybe need to replace it,,, the inhibitor switch can be adjusted,,, GOOD LUCK!!

My 95 Lexus es 300 won't start, unless you wiggle the gear shifter. what is the problem?

Cars today are designed to not start unless in park or neutral. Given that there is a sensor that indicates the car is in neutral or park and the sensor is likely mechanical in nature. For example when you open your washing machine top during the spin cycle the drum stops however if you use a screwdrive and push the sensor latch down you can watch the machine spin with the lid open. Based upon the age of the vehicle it's likely the gear shifter has loosened up and does not always seat itself while in park hence the need to jiggle in order to get the sensor to tell the car is in park. Good luck, hope this helps!

My engine wont start but when i jiggle the shifter in park there is a certain spot it does start

There is a switch in the shifter called the neutral safety switch. This keeps the car from being started except when it is in park or neutral. Yours is going bad. You might try starting in neutral instead of park if that works better. This will get worse until it fails completely.

1997 Ford Escort - car has power but will not start. It did the same 2 days ago, but after putting shifter in reverse and then back in park, the car started. Now it won't.

sounds like you may have a bad safety switch on your shifter, if you have intermittent problems with it starting and it changes with movement of the shifter, it's probably the safety switch. The next time it doesn't start, shift to neutral and try it, if it starts, its the switch. The switch is designed to keep the engine from starting if it's in gear, but it will let you start in neutral and park.

Car sometimes wont shift out of park

when you press the brake it activates the shift lock in the console beside the shifter this is a very common problem with altima's you need to check and see if they have a recall on the shift lock system
