Chevy Cobalt 2008 - Key will turn in ignition but doesnt start the engine. I cannot remove the key, nor turn the stearing wheel or change gears from park to nuetral. The lights on my car were all on, my battery was NOT dead prior to this happening. The battery died because my key is stuck in ignition. When I would turn the key to start the engine, the display would show a car with a lock and the transmission light. It would aslo make an odd clicking noise. Similar noise as the blinker clicking.

Could be the BTSI solenoid in the shifter, have that checked . You may have to buy complete shifter if it proves bad. This would keep you from removing key. Call you local dealer with VIN number and mileage have them check for the recall pertaining to the key rotation, yours may or may not be involved.

SOURCE: Chevy Cobalt: key stuck in ignition

Does anyone know what the recalled part is for the Chevy Cobalt that causes the key to get stuck in the ignition? I would greatly appreciate any help on this as I do not have $600 to get it fixed.

How can I get key out which is stuck in ignition of 2008 cobalt. It also won't start

This can happen if the battery is low / dead. To solve, connect a set of jumper cables between the battery in the Cobalt and a running car's battery. Shut off the running car. In the Cobalt, make sure all accessories (lights, radio, fan, etc.) are off. Step on the brake, then move the gear shifter fully into the PARK position. Next, either attempt to start the engine, or turn the key to the OFF position and remove it from the ignition.

I hope this helps & good luck!

Key won't turn in 2008 Chevy Cobalt. Tried moving

now what it sounds like is the key has a sensor built in it the keys cost around 60.00$ but this is most likely what is wrong. the sensor is a security feature with the car if the light glows while trying to turn the car then this your problem :)
