Have a steady growl up front at hiway speeds.cv boots are not cracked and no clicking.what else could this be.brakes are good

More then likely wheel bearings. Make sure you check rear wheel bearings too. Noise travels very easily in the Cavalier. I had rear wheel bearings bad but sounded like front ones.

Front wheel shimmering, noticed I need new tires but what if my 1997 Chevy Cavalier needs wheel bearings, how long can I wait before replacing them? can't afford both at this time.

The term shaking fits well in there (don't need highly technical terms.)
If the shaking is gone, chances are the hubs are good otherwise you'd still have the problem you had before.
Make sure you rotate the new ones on schedule and they will last longer and will be less prone to problems such as what you had with yours.
Happy 4th!!! TG

Need front wheel bearings for 96 Cavalier. Help

the proper method is to remove the steering knuckle and press the new bearing out and in, it probably also throw the i alignment out, so a shop is a good idea

Wheel bearings

What do you have removed? Did you remove the three bolts on the back of the hub? After these are removed, you can tap the rear of the hub with a mallet to gently knock it off of the spindle.

How to change wheel bearings on a 96 cavalier

The wheel bearings on your car is contained in a sealed wheel hub. You have to change the whole hub to change the bearing. Remove the wheel, the brake caliper, the rotor. There will be three bolts holding the hub on from the back. You will need to remove these bolts and slide the hub off of the spindle. then grease the spindle slide on your new hub and bolt everything back together.

I would say you have bad wheel bearings on the front. More noise turning right means the left is REALLY bad.
