The inginition either does not read the code from the key to start or the key is bad with the chip in it.
Both keys recieve the same response, by the car not starting.
We were advised to leave the ingination on for about 10 minuts, then go directly to start.
This trick worked this timme, but maybe not the next.

You may have an issue with the Passlock Security system. If the key security code is not read when the key is inserted, the Passlock system de-activates the fuel pump. Many GM vehicles are on a recall list at this time due to such problems. The earlier models started about 2001 and goes to about 2009. Other possible problems could be ...No fuel in the tank, a bad fuel pump, or even a bad ignition module. Check the things you can check, and for the others you will need a mechanic. Best Wishes
you have to get a chip in ur old key there is a micro chip if its not there the comp picks this up u need to get it re coded if u have a chip key ..but if u have just a new cut key u will have to get another one with chip and get it recoded or put the old key very close to ingnition to work
I purchased a used 2002 pontiac grand am with only one key (dealer key), so I went and had a couple of keys made without magnetic chip,my bad. the car was running great until I tested the new keys that I had made, not knowing this set off the security lock out. the next day I went out to start the car and would act like it was trying to turnover but I was was doing was running the battery down, after several hours of troubleshooting (thinking fuel pump issue) I had come to learn the when you see the security light blinking on the dash it ain't going to start. How to fix, using a magnetic strip key turn to the on position, remember this model turns lights on also, leave the key in on position for 10 minutes this will reset the alarm, turn the key to the off position, now try to start your car. Key point here is if you see the security icon blinking on your dash the car has power everywhere but will not start, there may be several things that trip the security, I am just learning of one
you need to go to a locksmith for that this car has a big black head on the key it has a transponder in it ( a chip ) new keys come blank and have to be programed to match your current key or car wont start
well does the key go in does it turn to the start pos? if the dash dost power up its because the switch is bad if it will power up but not start it can be becuse of the resitor chip depends on what is going on if you cant get power its becuse of the switch
Could be your Key, if you have a key that is a code key, the one with a black thing on the shaft of the key it could be damaged. or you might have a chip in the top fat part of the key with a chip in it(you wont see that one) some cars had this safety if it thought that the car was stolen would shut things off like that.
