Cranking 94 s-10 only when its cold when you try to crank engine it will spin over a few times then it will "kick back" but eventually crank. thought it was a timing issue so i hooked up the lab scope to watch the crank position sensor and everthing looks good but when truck warms up everthing is fine

If battery is not fully charged could that cause engine to spin but not crank?

Spinning IS Cranking, they are the same thing. You mean cranking and not starting or firing. Old cars used to have a cranked handle that you inserted into the front of the car to turn the engine manually and start it. The cranked handle cranked the engine. History lesson as well :>)

If the battery is low, there may not be enough power to turn the engine and provide enough power to the ignition system. This is more of a problem in cold weather as the oil is more viscous and requires more amps to turn it over. Top it up with a battery charger.

If my jag has been sitting for more than 24 hours the first time I try to start the engine takes maybe 8 or 9 cranks before it will start, after this she starts quickly.

Sounds like the engine oil is quite thick when cold so you probably need to check the last time the oil was changed along with the filter.once it gets slightly warm the engine takes less cranking amps to turn over so it will start quicker.

My 2000 nissan maxim starts up sometimes at other times when trying to crank it it sounds like it is out of timing

Why do you think that the engine spinning over and over is a symptom of the timing being wrong? It isn't unless the engine never starts or kicks back while cranking it with the starter. Check your fuel pressure when this all happens. It sounds like the electric fuel pump inside the fuel tank is failing, they last about 100,000-125,000 miles on average.

TAKES 5 MINUTES TO STARTENGINE

Does the check engine light come on when you turn the ignition on, before trying to crank the engine? If it does not, then the ecu is in need of repair. Try leaving the ignition on, without cranking the engine, for a few minutes, to see if the check engine light eventually comes on. If it does come back on, the ecu is going bad.

What kind of battery can I use for my 2002 model Ford Escape? My car is a 4X4, 2.6 engin size

You sate you have the 2.6 liter engine. Is it four or six cylinders? The number of cylinders is also used to determine the correct battery amps. The following information is for the four cylinder engine...You can use any battery with at least 590 cold cranking amps, 620 cold cranking amps, or 720 cold cranking amps. The following is for the six cylinder engine...You can use any battery with at least 590 cold cranking amps, 620 cold cranking amps or 720 cold cranking amps. The auto parts store can help you decide the best battery for your vehicle.
