Question about 1997 Dodge Dakota

My '97 Dodge Dakota won't stay on, I have to keep hitting the acceleration pedal otherwise it turns off. What's the problem?

To correct this problem I want you to get a can of intake cleaner (ABOUT $5.00) from any local auto parts store like NAPA or Carquest, do not use carburetor spray, intake cleaner only or u will damage the Teflon coating inside the throttle valve and air bypass valve, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

No, check for your trouble codes. It might be the temperature sensor.It sends a message to the ECM them it sends a message to the throttle positioning sensor.

Starts but you have to keep your foot on accelerator

There is an idle speed motor on the side of the throttle body, I would thouroughly clean throttle body.

Break light stays on


check your brake pedal. there is ususlly a brake light switch connected to it. sometimes the part the switch hits the pedal gets broken.

Replaced ctm unit and truck won`t stay running.


there are 2 sensor on the carb . you may need to replace both to find out whiche one it is . try this also give it gas while starting and when it starts you will have to keep your foot on the gas a little to keep it running if it runs that way its one of the 2 senors .
