SOURCE: need wireing diagram to change 72 nova over to hei distributor

Hey , just take the positive wire from the coil you are removing and feed it to the + terminal on the HEI dist. cap.the other terminal under there is for your tachometer. If you are mounting a master kill switch in the bumper for drag racing- attatch the kill wire to the tach terminal also.
Thats it you just plug the three wire pigtail from the dist. base(pickup) to the cap and you are off.
Remember firing order is 18436572 in a clockwise direction. to find #1 remove #1 plug and have someone"bump" the engine over while holding your finger over the hole-carefull. then line up the slotted mark on the crank pulley with the big notch on the timing indicator. Good luck

SOURCE: diagram for replacing distributor, cap, rotor...

Replace the coil. It is shorted out. I have changed quite a few coils for the exact same symptom.

The graciousness of a FixYa rating for my assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance.

I need a wiring diagram of a 1960 ford f-100 6 cylinder ignation coil

I don't have wiring diagram for that year.
I don't mind talking to you.
The positive side of the coil gets voltage from ignition switch, the negative side of the coil goes to distributor and ignition points on a points type system.
Some makes and models, when cranking, everything gets full battery voltage. When it starts and you release the key it springs back to the run position. In the run position, voltage to the coil may go through resistor block or resistor wire, the purpose is so the points on a points ignition doesn't have to deal with full battery voltage all the time. Helps the points last longer.
Just my opinion.

No fire to distributor

I'm sure you know the fuel pump won't have any affect on the ignition.
You may need a repair book to get the procedures and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot the ignition system.
I am assuming a new coil came with the replacement distributor. Did the cap and rotor get replaced too ?
Do you have voltage going to the distributor coil ?
Is the rotor turning when the engine is cranked ?

How to test 95 Tacoma 2.4L internal distributor coil

You may need a shop manual for the procedure.
The black and red wire should be hot from the key. Other than that, you would need to know which wire sends a signal from the igniter to the coil to fire the plugs. The wiring diagram shows two wires from the computer to the igniter and nothing to the coil.

Looking for a Wiring diagram for the ignition coil on a Cadillac fleetwood 1991

There is not much to a wiring diagram for the ignition coil on that vehicle. The coil connections are all made inside the distributor. One ignition feed wire and the rest is self-conained within the distributor housing.

Please I need help. I have a,1995 geo prizm. I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pu relay switch, temp sensor. Took it to a shop and hooked up to machine for check engine light and found out...

It's not really a switch. Below is a desciption of what the code means. In about 50 percent of the cases it's a bad connection which is causing the failure and there are many tests to check different circuits. In order to rule out the ignitor here is a quick test you can do. Below is a picture of a breakdown of you distributor (yes the ignitor is in the distributor). Take the distributor cap off. Using a digtal volt meter check with your postive probe the black wire terminal connected to the ignition coil and ground the negative probe to a good grouns like the battery. Make sure you are getting at least 10 to 12 volts. If you are check the connection at the brown and black wire between the coil and the ignitor and make sure all is good (like good continuity) If all is good, chances are the ignitor is faulty. If you are not getting the voltage on the first test right at the black wire terminal at the coil the coil could be faulty. As I said it's a 50/50 thing on this code as far as wiring or a componant such as the coil or ignittor. I have found in the past that in most cases if say a coil or ignitor goes bad, it's just bad and you end up in a no start situation but there are those odd cases that outside temps effect everything like engine heat or a componant over heating.Hope this helps and good luck.

It goes to the ignition coil located on the firewall. See diagram.

My toyota corolla was idline fine then just cut off . no spark in distributor

If your engine cranks normally but will not start and cuts off because it has no spark, or it stalls and won't restart because it has no spark, the problem may be due to any of the following:
A bad pickup inside the distributor a stripped distributor drive gear (common problem with plastic distributor drive gears, broken, loose or corroded wires from the pickup to the ignition module or PCM.
If there is power going from the coil to the dist, but no spark coming out of the dist. the Condenser is bad. Small round thing that has a wire that hooks to the points. If the engine has no spark, check for voltage at the coil positive terminal when the ignition key is on.
If there is voltage, the problem is on the trigger side of the coil (pickup, crank sensor, ignition module or primary wiring circuit).
If there is NO voltage at the coil, the problem is on the supply side (the ignition switch or ignition wiring circuit).
If the coil has voltage, the problem may be a bad high voltage output wire from the coil to the distributor, hairline cracks in the coil output tower, or cracks or carbon tracks inside the distributor cap or on the rotor. You can check this with voltmeter.------------------
That's it.

Hei distributor on old L6 engiune won't fire coil

'56 engine was likely a "blue flame" engine that had a points type ignition system. If someone installed a HEI setup in there, you need to know what year vehicle it came from. The old system used a hot wire from the ignition switch to the (+) side of an external coil...the (-) lead went to the points. The most common conversion uses the same (+) wire but it then connects to the "batt" terminal on the distributor cap.(coil is inside) There are no other wires involved except for the short harness that goes directly into the distributor that connects the coil, pickup coil and control module to each other..
