Question about Chevrolet S 10

3 Answers

I changed the spark plugs and wires on my chevy s10 2wd pick up, which is a 4 cylinder and now it will not turn over. I might have the wires mixed up on the distributer cap. Can someone show me a picture as to the correct positioning. I know that the firing order is 1-3-4-2 but how do I know which is which on the distributor cap?

The S-10 came with 3 difference 4 cylinder engines. Each one has a different location for the number 1 spark plug wire in the distributor. You did not say which engine your's has. So the easiest way to set up the distributor is to turn the engine by hand until you see the timing marks line up on the crank pulley. Set your rotor button on the dist. shaft, and line the tip up with one of the wire connections in the cap. That will be number 1 location in the cap. The 2.0L and the 2.5L 4 cyl. dist. turns clockwise when standing at the grill, so it will go from the rotor point number 1-3-4-2. The 1.9L 4 cyl. dist. turns counterclockwise and you just rewire in the opposite way. I hope this is clear as mud and makes all your hard work easy.

I believe it is the same as my 98 s10 2.2 l and the firing order is 1-4-2-3 (where cylinder #1 is the closest to the fire wall) and your distributor has the plug wires running almost vertically 1st cylinder = the very bottom and 4th cylinder = second from the bottom and 2nd cylinder = second from the top and 3rd cylinder = the top connection on the distributor.

It is possible that the wiring of the cap was lost during the replacement. Included are some diagrams for the 6 and 8 cylinder. Confirm the sequance with the truck documentaTION.

Hope this helps?

Daewoo tacuma Just changed my spark plugs and HT leads now enging runs rough and stalls on idle

CHECK YOU FIRING ORDER, YOU MIXED THE IGNITION WIRES, IF IT IS A 4 CYL, FIRST CYLINDER #1 IS NEAR THE BELTS, CHECK COIL WIRES FOR NUMBERS, OR DISTRIBUTOR CAP FOR CYLINDER NUMBER OR COIL PACK FOR CYL #, AND FOLLOW THE WIRES TO THE SPARK PLUGS. MAKE SURE THEY ARE RIGHT, NEXT TIME DO ONE PLUG AND ONE WIRE AT THE TIME.

My 2005 Chevy Equinox LT has a number 1 cylinder misfire. I already had the spark plugs and wires changed. I also had the coil changed and it still misfires. I checked it with my OB2 computer, and it reads...

Have you done a compression check? I had the same problem on an S-10 Chevy pick up. Found that # 3 cylinder had low compression due to a burnt exhaust valve. No more problems after having valve job done on the engine.

When you replaced the fuel pump, did you notice if the pick-up line was in good condition or not? I have been told by a mechanic that has over 35 yearsof experience that this was a common problem, and especially now with Ethanol being mixed in with fuel.

Just changed plugs and wires in my 1998 Chevy Malibu V6 3.1. Car now runs very rough and has no pick up at all. What is the proper firing order for this engine?

Firing order on 3.1L engine is 1-2-3-4-5-6. The ignition system is a waste-spark system, which uses 3 coil packs (1-4) (2-5) (3-6). Make sure that the paired cylinders' plug wires go to the same coil pack.

1993 chevy cavalier 2.2l 4 c. sparks and wire order

it fires 1-3-4-2. The coil pack is marked 1-4, match them up with your cylinders, and you're good to go! Cylinder 1 is on the front of the engine, the side opposite from the transmission. Find your alternator and that's at cylinder 1.
