It is not a fuel problem its an electrical problem. when fuel is put in the throttle body the car runs.

the problem is fuel pump not coming on with the ignition. the fuel pumlp only comes on when i energize

it through the diagnostic link terminal. when voltage is applied the pump will run continuousaly. but the

injectors do not spray the fuel into the throttle body. A test light hooked to the injecters shows hot

but no pulse when car is cranked. check engine light still does not come on at any time. Have checked

all wire connections ,fuses and ignition module.

You might try spraying starting fluid in the air cleaner to determine if it is a fuel problem. If it fires up then it is a fuel problem for sure. If not then check for spark on the spark plugs. If indeed it is a fuel problem check fuel pressure. Even though the pump is running, it may not be pumping enough pressure. It could also have a dirty fuel filter.

If it requires a jump start, bad battery obviously. If the starter is turning over normally, the entire start system should be good. This is the entire input to the PCM(powertrain control module which is basically a computer). The first direct output from the PCM is the fuel pump.If the starter is cranking normally,it is probably the PCM.I saw what the other tech wrote and did not see any mention of these things.I would like to know what,if any,of the things which I mentioned that you have done before I go further because it is a systematic process of elimination throughout the process. What affects what, when it does or does not affect it etc. I will monitor for you and try to get back ASAP.
Thanks,Greg

OK, if the check engine light will not come on at anytime, the computer may be bad.

Can you hear the fuel pump run, if not it may have failed again. I have seen new fuel pumps last a day or two and then fail. If your pump is working then replace the fuel filter. Anytime you open the fuel system, you should replace the filter.

so, the problem is you're not getting fuel to the injectors. to check that the pump is running, simply turn the key to the on position and listen for the pump motor. have someone listen at the fuel tank. if the pump runs, the fuel lines or filter might be clogged. also, there is most likely a fuel pump relay. locate it, probably in the engine compartment in the power distribution box; and while turning the key to the on position, have someone listen for the relay to click there is also a fuel pump cut-off switch to de-energize the pump in the event of a collision. check to ensure it is not tripped. it can be reset by pushing the red button.

You will need to check fuel pressure first off. It sounds like the fuel system is bleeding off after you shut the truck off. The most common points of bleed off is the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator.
Also with all of the time it has sat you may need to run all of the gas you have out of it and fill it up with freash fuel!

I'm guessing the cat convertor is stopping up , if the car sat anytime the fuel pump is probably about stopped up or your fuel filter. Go with the simple stuff first, fuel filter, check Throttle Position Switch position if you swapped it out. Also the oxygen sensor is a prime suspect , should be replaced every 60k miles or so.

MUTIPORT FUEL INJECTION PONTIAC FIREBIRD 3.1

My 92 Bird with the 3.1 did the same thing after it sat for about 2 months. The car had aways started right away before. I had to jump start it and I thought it would never start.Same as yours after it started. Seem to get better after I ran it awhile. It was getting good spark and was getting fuel. I checked fuel pressure, it seemed to be within specs.then it started to sputter and the pressure dropped to almost nothing. Seems that the fuel pump was going bad, but still would pump enough fuel at times to run. When the car was parked the fuel pressure would bleed off, and when I tried to start it the pump had trouble pumping enough fuel to pressure the system.Long story short! Replace the fuel pump, and filter.....

After replacing fuel pump it run when it wants to.

In our shop we have had the same problem before, it turned out to be a new defective fuel pump by Bosh, two bad ones in a row, try a ohm meter on the pump when it runs and when does not compare the numbers , if they are very different, try a new brand of pump.
