SOURCE: check engine light went on because someone stole my gas cap
Theres two ways you could fix this issue. Disconnect the battery, let it sit for about ten minutes, or you can go to advanced auto parts, have them scan the car, and clear the code. Just tell them the CEL is on and they'll hook up the scan tool, then just ask them to clear it. That should solve the light problem in your car.

It may need a gas cap, and if you do make sure you get it from the dealer. Not all caps sold on the aftermarket are right for your truck. The code that sets is "evap small leak detected" and while the cap is the most common cause on newer cars, all it takes is a tiny crack in a hose to let the air into the closed system. Replacing a 4 year old cap is the easiest, but if it comes back you will need to find a shop that has a smoke machine. There is a port on the system you hook up to and pumps smoke at very low pressure into the closed system and you follow all the lines until you see smoke coming out of the leak. It is work the cost to have it diagnosed because you cannot find the leak with out the machine and the repair is generally nominal in cost. In most states it will not pass inspection with this light on.
Hope this helps

PO455 is a large evaporative fuel leak. A bad fuel cap is ONE of the things that COULD be the problem. Fuel system cleaning only lightened your wallet. Reading your post is confusing. Did all this start AFTER the Valvoline Wallet Flushing? If so , they left something loose or disconnected. I would find a qualified repair shop to fix the problem, and if it has anything to do with what Valvoline did, make them pay the bill.
SOURCE: How to reset check engine light after gas cap left
The light should turn off by itself after a couple of drive cycles, if not go to your local AutoZone and they can erase the code for you for free.
SOURCE: do you need to reset the check engine light after
you mite can take the negitive cable off of battery and leave off for 10 min.s or so. the replace it and that mite work if not you will need a scan tool that wll trun it off for you. unless you know someone that has one you will probley have to take it the shop.
