A quick and easy remedy is to replace the coil. But you can also go to the auto parts store and ask to use their OBD, or their OBD-ll if your car is new enough, and just hook it up to the computers port which should be inside the vehicle, then you would look that code up in Hanes repair manual for your make, model and year.

I have a 1987 volvo non turbo 240-dl. Im getting no spark from the coil or plugs. I have replaced the coil-the hall sensor and pick up in distributor-and the ignition control bo unit,

You are fortunate to be able to obtain a replacement Hall sensor. Several manufacturers used this type but refused to supply distributor parts. After much effort I managed to obtain kits direct from Bosch and twenty and more years ago I fitted quite a few saving my customers a great deal of money. I used to carry the circuit in my head but it is now too long ago...

I always removed the distributor to fit the kit and then tested it before refitting by connecting it and spinning it by hand. The spark from these systems was so strong it didn't need to be seen and could be heard without problems.

Mostly it was a quick fix without complications but I remember a couple that probably didn't need a kit as they didn't work afterwards. The fault turned out to be an oxide coating on the 3-pin distributor connector that required much patience to scrape clean without damaging the small receptacles.
Another one had an internal break in the distributor/amplifier wiring.

if it is black or blue smoke more than likely its your trubo you should always let the car run 2 or so minuets before shutting it off to let the turbo cool or you can ruin them this would be my best guess

1995 Galant won't start

if it turn over, its not anything to do with the anti-theft system, neutral/safety switch or clutch switch. If your going to start it by pulling out the ignition switch and turning it with a screwdriver, remember that the steering wheel will lock if you try to turn. you can either drill out the tumblers from the key cylinder and turn it with a screwdriver or drill out the breakaway bolts that secure the wheel lock to the steering column.
First check for spark. if your getting spark, check the firing order.

the distributor houses a built in ignition coil and ignition power transistor. so if either goes bad you need to change the distributor. to check the coil measure the resistance between the two terminals of the distributor. it should be 0.9–1.2 ohms. then measure the resistance between the secondary ignition coil terminal on top of the distributor cap and each of the 2 pins. 20–29K ohms.f53ce6e.jpg
