Question about 2001 Volkswagen Golf

My 2001 vw golf 2L gas.. heater is not heating..do they have a problam with the heater cores on this car? my son says that s the prob. after looking at it.he's a machanic. found out it cirulates though the core very poorly.

Yes hes right iam afraid ,flush it each way with the feed pipes off using the garden hose and dont forget the antifreeze

Vw golf 2001. coolant system not working


Your most probable cause for this is because your water valve needs replacement or repairing. Not all cars have a water valve that brings the heated coolant into the heater core unit.

Essentially, the heated coolant is brought from the engine block directly, into a mini radiator that has a fan to blow heated air into your vehicles cabin.

If that valve were clogged, or the switch itself to open up the water valve that blocks the coolant from going into the heater core unit, then you wont be able to get heat from the vents.

ALSO, another reason why your car might also be overheating as well, is you need to check your coolant levels as well to make sure it is fully filled up, if it is, then your thermostat might also need replacement.

Coolant leak in VW Golf mark 5 1.9 TDi auto DSG


There is, however, an air outlet into the driver's foot area. If the heater core is leaking, the air coming through the heater core will carry the droplets into the entire air ducting system. The driver's foot area may be the closest outlet. If it smells like coolant, you need to replace the heater core regardless of where in the cabin the coolant is coming out.

Vapors coming through the vent w/AC & heater on - 96 VW Golf


Bad heater core. What is happening is when you turn on the air you are getting fumes from the heat of the engine and the heater core leaking causing you to get a smell and also fumes. I would suggest that you take it to the dealership or a mechanic and have the problem fixed ASAP due to the health issue

Vw polo heater blowing only cold air


Daughter's R reg VW Polo has heater probs, only just started, fan working fine and temp gauge works normally but only blows cold air. What do you think could be the prob ?

1986 VW Golf heater blows cold air


The heater in your car depends upon a flow of hot coolant going through the heater core in order to get hot air into the car. If the heater core is partially plugged, it will restrict the flow. If you have a head gasket that is putting exhaust into the cooling system, it will eventually get into the heater core. When this happens there is no coolant in the heater core to make the air warm. If the water pump vanes have corroded away the result will be very poor coolant circulation causing the heater to not blow hot air. If your car is equipped with a heater control valve that is not functioning properly, the coolant flow will be restricted. One or a combination of these factors is likely the culprit in your case.
if the car is not overheating, the thermostat is working fine.... replace or flush the heater core multiple times to try and eliminate sediment build-up.

Low heat from my 2001 Passat heater


There are known problems with this vehicle's heater core not getting enough coolant flowing through it to blow hot air.
1) Even if the coolant looks good, there are problems with the heater core plugging up. One solution is to use a heavy duty cleaner (CLR pipe cleaner) to back flush the heater core. To know if the heater core is plugged up, disconnect the 2 heater hoses at the heater core and somehow connect a hose to one end of the core. Try to flow water through, it doesn't have to be high pressure, and there should be a steady stream. If not, try to get the cleaner directly into the heater core and let it soak. Then back flush it and a lot of scale should be seen coming out.

2) The other problem is that since the heater core is the highest point in the cooling system air tends to get trapped in it. This should only happen if the coolant goes low or someone has opened the system to service it. There are a number of ways to bleed the system (vacuum bleed, pressure bleed). One of the hoses should have a small hole in it for bleeding air, pull that hose back just enough so the hole allows coolant to flow out of it. Then accelerate the engine and get a good flow coming out, when no more air bubbles are present, there should be good heat.

3)I've heard of bad water pumps with low flow causing issues as well as an aux. water pump not fuctioning correctly leading to poor heat output from the heater core. Someone should confirm this as I cannot get much information on the aux water pump(electronic pump by the alternator that is supposed to run after the car is shut off).

Cant get heat to the inside


Have you checked to see if small vacuum line on firewall under the hood is a-ok ( no breaks or cuts) it's usually on passenger side and goes through the firewall to inside.
Also I think when the heater core goes out you have no defrost either so when it is cold and wet outside your windshield will fog up.Also did you check your fuses.
