Look for a dislodged vacuum tube or dislodged or damaged wires.

Check timing again because as you tightened the belt it moved ,also when changing a belt turn the bottom pulley bolt with rachet 360? to ensure valves clear

Sounds like it may be 180 degrees out. If the engine turned or the Cam was moved any direction while you were doing the job you will get this problem. Double check the timing with a timing light and try adjusting to 5 degrees before TDC which is the normal pre start position for he timing belt as you install it.

Changed water pump, timing belt, plugs on 02 mazda 626 2.5 liter it started for a few seconds but now it turns over but wont fire and it turns kind of like it has a low battery but the battery is char

Check to see that all your timing marks are still in line at TDC No1 cylinder, compression stroke.. Sounds like the engine is trying to push against itself.

I have a 91 626 mazda, timeing belt broke and the water pump was leaking...so i left it in the garage, the car was not worked on unitl ten months later,i changed the timeing belt and water pump, also new...

Check the ECM for codes. Cam or crank sensors will cause a no start. Also there should have been a compression and/or leak down test performed on the engine before the belt was replaced. This is done to make sure that the pistons didn't bend the valves. Bent valves will cause a nostart because of no compression. First check for codes then do a compression test before you replace anything. Let me know

How do you replace the water pump on a 2002 mazda 626 4cyl? does it interact with the timing belt?

hi from uk the 626 water pump is not driven by timing belt but by another drive belt so easy to change after removal of under wing cover to access /see pump b4 you remove drive belt would advise you to slacken off the water pump pully 1st while it is held by drive belt to prevent turning ? then with belt off /pully removed pump is more accessable hope this helps?

Low idle speed problem!

You probably disturbed the timing between the crankshaft and the camshaft if you loosened the timing belt.

Timing belt/waterpump

usually a good time to change it is at about 100,000 miles. change it before it becomes a must or not ride(type of thing). if your water pump is run by your timing belt, then yes you should change the water pump when you do the timing belt. the tension from the new belt will sooner than later kill the bearing in the old water pump and it will cost you twice to fix it versus the one time fix. when you go in to the shop there should be no additional cost to replace the timing belt because it has to come off to replace the water pump.
