Question about 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

1 Answer

So part of the issue that was recommended was to replace the cam and crankshaft position sensors. These were replaced on Monday and yesterday, Friday, the vehicle turned of again. A new code did show up P0507. Now I don't know if this can also cause for my vehicle to keep turning off. The mechanic said it could be an issue with my vehicle's computer. Please help. I don't want to keep spending money just to keep guessing.

Any mechanic worth their weight would have a code reader with all the code faults listed, how come yours dont.....sorry to vent my frustration out but this does get right up my nose.PLEASE take it to a dealer that has the code reader AND the NISSAN list of faultcodes,WOULD THAT NOT BE CHEAPER THAN SOME MONKEY PLAYING WITH your WALLET..... (i did not see your original question, but if you were to ask again with the fault codes you had im sure we could help.without guessing.....

2002 VOLVO S80 T6 CODE P0017

the word correlation means relationship between two or more items . In this case it means that when the crank shaft sensor is triggered then the camshaft sensor has to be in agreement that the position of the piston and valves is in the right position to allow spark and fuel.. there are air gaps between each sensor and the rotor that triggers them and if this is not correct or there is dirt in the air gap ( the sensors may be a bit advanced or retarded in the fitment holes) then this relationship of positions is being interfered with and so you get the fault code. If after rechecking the fitment of the sensors and using a scanner to put the engine light off ,you still have a problem ,I would suggest that you find an accredited shop the does a lot of work on your make of car to assist with the fault.

I have a 2003 chevy malibu with 90,000 miles. i took it in for maintenance and the mechanic said that it was showing trouble code p0341. he said it was the cam sensor. yesterday when i went to start it, it...

if the cam sensor is bad, it will definitely not start. The cam shaft position sensor's function is: the engine speed and crankshaft position information is supplied frome a sensor which is usually situated at the front or rear of the crankshaft. note that distributor-located engine speed sensor are generally being replaced with crank shaft-located sensors,as worn disributor drives and associated components can effect the accuracy of the engine speed signal.

A camshaft position sensor,or cylinder identification sensor is used to determin the engine cycle position the information is used to provide individual cylinder ignition and injection cotrol. Many engine mangement systems use an inductive type of sensor that is located near the camshaft;when the camshaft rotates a single signal is passed to the ECU to indicate a reference point in the engine cycle

If it has a code for loosing the crankshaft position sensor signal, I would certainly start looking at that before venturing into the fuel system. Cam and Crank sensors are a common failure item for Nissans of that era. Nissan actually redesigned the sensor and i think they performed a recall on some vehicles. They are fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. I believe they run about $40 each. Because most people don't have access to a powerful scanner or a digital storage oscilloscope to verify the failure I recommend replacing the cam and crank sensors at the same time.

Jaguar xj 40 sovereign 1994 error code 17

I'm not a Jag expert, but error code 17 is:
P0017 Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor B)
Additional infomation on and cause and possible solutions are here:
http://www.obd-codes.com/p0016
Basically, it looks like you have timing issue. Could be the cam or crank sensor or the timing belt.
The P0017 code would imply that you have at least two cam sensors (V6 or V8). The computer thinks that the B sensor cam is out of time with the other cam and the crankshaft. Depending on the cost and location, you might try changing the cam sensor first. The cost to check or replace the timing belt is probably going to be painful.
