Question about 2001 Saturn S-Series

1 Answer

I have a 2001 saturn sl that has been slow to start, taking thirty-fortyfive seconds everymorning, slow to turn over then gaining momentum. this morning i hooked up cables from another car and it started right up. Great, right? need a new battery, no problems.. put in the new battery and now it has no power at all. wont turn over, no lights, completely dead. replacing a battery seems pretty straightforward, i removed the pos and neg posts, then put them on again on the new battery, i didn't get them backward, pos on pos, neg on neg.. why would this happen other than just a bad battery? or is that all it is?

Have you removed and checked the IAC? (Idle air control)
Will it stay running when you manually hold the throttle? keeping the idle up?

Hello: Try this procedure, Turn key on attempt to start engine leave key on, the security light should be blinking, wait 10 minutes. The security light should be off. Turn key off for 10 seconds, turn key back on (DO NOT ATTEMPT TO START) wait another 10 minutes. Turn key off for 10 seconds. Do the procedure again as in step 2. At the end of the third time turn key off then ten seconds later attempt to start the car. It should start.

Engine turns but car will not start 2001 saturn

FIRST YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM, (1) THE IGNITION OR (2) A FUEL PROBLEM. GRAB A CAN OF STARTING FLUID FROM YOUR LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE (BE CAREFULL USING TO MUCH OF THIS FLUID) IS TO TEST ONLY. SPRAY LIKE A ONE SECOND SPRAY AT THE AIR FILTER INLET PIPE AND TRY STARTING IT, IF IT STARTED YOU HAVE A FUEL PROBLEM IF IT DINT START THEN YOU'RE OKAY ON THE FUEL SIDE, JUMP TO THE NEXT ITEM WHICH IS THE IGNITION. REMOVE ONE SPARK PLUG WIRE AND STINCK A SCREW DRIVER ON THE WIRE AND LET THE SCREW DRIVER LEAN ON METAL TO MAKE GROUND CONTACT, TRY STARTING IT AND CHECK FOR SPARK. IF IT SPARKED GOOD CHECK THE OTHER 3 WIRES AND EITHER ONE FUEL OR THE IGNITION IS THE PROBLEM UNLESS YOUR TIMING CHAIN BROKE,. LET ME KNOW

I have a 2001 saturn sl. the car just turned off and the oil pressure light turned on. Now the car wont start and the light continues to stay on. the car has oil.

you are looking at two unrelated things. when the car died, the oil pressure dropped off causing the light to come on. this is normal. when the key is on but the engine is not running, there is no oil pressure so the light will be on. dont be concerned about the oil light and start diagnosing your no start.

The starter on my 2001 SL1 was easy to get to, and remove. I would pull it and take it to a parts house to have it tested. It is possible the brushes are sticking.
