Question about Dodge Dakota
Fuel injector operation is monitored when battery voltage is more than 10.4 volts, Auto Shutdown (ASD) relay is energized, fuel injector pulse width is less than 10 milliseconds and engine speed is less than 3000 RPM. DTC may be stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) when no inductive impulse is sensed after fuel injector turns off with no other fuel injectors turned on. Possible causes are: defective fuel injector, defective ASD relay circuit, defective PCM, or defective connectors or wiring.
This applies to some Dodge Dakota vehicles:
I have found that the Power Steering Psi Switch leaks oil down the wire from the PSI switch and into the C-1 connector at the pcm, when this happens it causes the Heater O2 Sensor to short out and set the lean/rich and or misfire code. If you pull data streem and find that the front O2 is staying at 0volts, remove the c1 connector from the pcm and see if its full of oil, also pull the connector from the Power Steering PSI Switch and look for oil leaking, you will also notice that the connector will be full of oil. The only way to fix this is to replace the PSI Switch and the faulty O2 sensor. Sometimes a heater fault code will set for the 1/2 O2 sensor as well.
Before replacing the the ECM, check this and get back to me.
IN CASE YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE ECM, HERE IS HOW. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment on inner fender panel. See Fig. above. If replacing PCM, new PCM must be properly programmed.
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE PROGRAMMING NOTE: If replacing Powertrain Control Module (PCM), the correct vehicle mileage and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) must be programmed into PCM to prevent Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from being set in Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module and Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) module.
To program PCM and clear DTCs from ABS and SRS modules, connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below driver's side of instrument panel.
1. Turn ignition on with engine off. 2. Using scan tool, enter correct VIN and mileage into PCM. Using scan tool manufacturer's instructions, clear DTCs from ABS and SRS modules.
