Hi Dave Any adjustable torque wrench will be fine, as long as the correct settings AND sequence is followed.... ....Have you taken the head to have it checked for distortion....Its a good idea when doing any work which requires the removal of the cylinder head, especially so if the engine over heated at all....Have it checked at an engineering company and skimmed if need be.... ....Regards Johngee10

they are stretch bolts and can only be used once. If you try re-using the old bolts they are likely to break or fail to apply enough pressure smile.gif Torques and the order are listed here.

How do i replace the cylinder head gasket

This is one of the biggest jobs you can do on a car. It takes a decent mechanic about 6 hours to do. The complete engine has to be stripped. If you dont know what your doing it can be very expensive to repair any damage you do if its nt done right. My advise would be to bring it to a mechanic, ask himw what parts he needs. (gasket kit, coolant pump, engine torque bolts etc.) you get the parts and ask for a "labour only" quote, that usually works out cheper. If you think you can do it yourself buy (or download) a service manual.

Toyota windom v6 head bolts torque settings

INSTALL CYLINDER HEAD if any bolts broken or deformed , replace it.

7------2-----4--------6
5------3-----1--------8
FRONT sequence head bolts
8-------1-----3-------5
6-------4-----2-------7

CYLINDER HEAD bolts are tightened in three progressive steps
1. 34 Nm ( 25 ft.lb)
2. 90 degree
3. another 90 degree.

double check everythings before install the head,
be sure to install the GASKET correctly.

Hope this can help.

What is the torque specs for a 1998 jeep Cherokee classic straight 6 4.0 liter? I am replacing the head gasket and need to find the lbs of torque. Thank you for any advice, pictures, etc.

Torque sequence ------------------ front | 12 8 4 1 5 9 13 | of | | engine | 11 7 3 2 6 10 14 | ------------------ Final torque must be reached in 3 equal steps Step 1: torque all bolts (except bolt 11) to 110 Ft/Lbs Step 2: torque bolt 11 to 100 Ft/Lbs Recheck final torque in sequence.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Disconnect the hoses at the thermostat housing.
  4. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  5. Remove the cylinder head cover.
  6. Loosen the rocker arms.
  7. Remove the pushrods.

The valvetrain components must be replaced in their original positions.
  1. Remove the intake and exhaust manifold from the cylinder head.
  2. Disconnect the spark plug wires and remove the spark plugs.
  3. Disconnect the temperature sending unit wire, ignition coil and bracket assembly from the engine.
  4. Remove the accessory drive belt(s).
  5. Unbolt and set aside the power steering pump and bracket. Do not disconnect the hoses.
  6. Remove the intake and exhaust manifold assembly.
  7. If equipped with A/C, perform the following:
    1. Remove the compressor and position it aside with the lines attached.
    2. Remove the compressor bracket bolts from the cylinder head.
    3. Loosen the through bolt at the bottom of the bracket.

  8. Remove the alternator.
  9. Remove the cylinder head bolts, the cylinder head and gasket from the block.

Bolt No. 14 cannot be removed until the head is moved forward. Pull the bolt out as far as it will go and suspend in place by wrapping with tape.
  1. Discard the gasket. Thoroughly clean the head-to-block mating surface.
  2. Clean and inspect the cylinder head thoroughly. Refer to the engine reconditioning portion outlined later in this section.

To install:
  1. Coat a new head gasket with suitable sealing compound and place it on the block. Most replacement gaskets will have the word TOP stamped on them.

Apply sealing compound only to the cylinder head gasket. Do not allow sealing compound to enter the cylinder bore.

Blown Headgasket

without mechanical knowledge, best left to a garage. if you have a bit of knowhow then do an assessment of what is connected to the head, inclusive of exhaust manifold and fuel inlet manifold, wiring etc.Once you decide how to do it, note where all bolts and wires go.Clean every bit of old gasket off all faces and as the head is alloy get a head skim from a motor factor or machine company. You will need a new set of cylider head bolts and full head gasket set. Torque settings , however will need to be obtained along with the head bolt sequence for retightening
