Power drive locks the gear longer and gives more power for overtaking and performance and normal gives better economy....Regards Johngee10

You can use thar switch to control transmission/gear box response, middle is for normal driving, power is for holding gears up to higher RPMs and the other ones should say some like Snow, basically starts driving the car from 2nd gear to avoid wheels slippage.

Transfer case jumps out of gear


sounds like a servo or sensor problem more than a transfer case. try removing all electrical plugs to t case run it through the gears then replace one by one to see if there is a problem there.

This switch is for the Electronic controlled transmission. in the normal position the transmission uses its normal shift points. In the PWR position the shift point are delayed to give you the illusion of more power. Keep it in the normal position for everyday driving.

The error message HOLD is showing on the dash near the 4x4 lights. What is this, is it bad? What do I do? Thanks


Hi. Take a deep breath of relief. First off this is not an error message and you should not panic. On your center console just below the gear shifter and the 4WD lever is an button that has "A/T MODE" written on it. This is what engages the 3 different driving modes to best assist you depending on the road conditions you are on. If the button is depressed at the top then the "PWR" mode is being used and on your dashboard you will notice a button flashing "PWR". This means that you have selected a driving mode that will avail you more power from the engine in instances like when you are driving up steep hills or a mountain or when you require to overtake a speeding car. Be warned, fuel consumption is high in this mode. When the button is depressed at the bottom, the "HOLD' mode is in effect and on your dash board the "HOLD' light will flash. This mode is best used when starting on a slippery surface like snow. Your car will start smoothly in second gear. When the neither the button is depressed at the top or bottom, then you are in 'NORMAL" mode which is for normal driving and where the car will run smoothly and use the lest amount of fuel. What are the winter and power buttons for on the center console below the hand brake.


Those buttons are similar to traction control on some newer vehicles. The winter button causes less torque to be transfered to your tires all at once therefore reducing the chance of spinning. The power button allows all torque to be applied to you tires more for pulling a trailer or normal summer driving.

The timing belt is normally replaced at 100,000 km (approx. 60,000 mi), but must be checked for wear and tear starting 75,000 km(approx. 45,000 mi) along with a major tune-up.

The switch near the shifter is the ECT (transmission control) which selects NORMal driving mode, and PoWeR mode. It is the battle between economy (NORM) and driving performance (PWR). As tested, the PWR mode delays your A/T upshift to a higher RPM. This utilizes your engine's higher revs, but really cuts into fuel economy.

Ect power?


The ECT button stand for Electronically Controlled Transmission. In short, what the button does is change the upshift points for the auto trans. Normally, the 1-2 upshift is at 15-19 mph, pressing the button changes the shift mph form 15-19 to 19-22/23. More often than not, this feature wiooould be used if you are hauling a heay load, and the ECT gets you up to speed faster, via the longer time as mentioned above re the shift mphs. Not very useful with normal driving, it really does not do much without a heavy load.

The button is to lock the central diff to distribute the power 50/50 front to rear when in slippery conditions,
Normally with button off the drive system favours the front wheels.
