Question about 1983 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight

1 Answer

The wiper fuse keeps blowing, unplugged from the wiper motor and fuse still blows when the switch is turned on. Checked where the fuse plugs in and one side lights up with a test light and the other is dead, what is the problem??? Please Help, my wife drives my daughter to school everyday and funds are limited for a electrical shop to repair. The car is a 83 olds 98, thank you.

The one that doesn't light is connected to a wire or a switch that is shorted. You will have to trace the wire leaving from there, find the short and insulate the bear metal part.
If the wire is intact then the wiper switch is defective, you will have to replace it. You can get it very cheaply at a breakers yard, you really don't need a brand new one.

Windshield wiper fuse keeps blowing

Since you Disconnect the motor also renewed the switch and is still blowing the fuse ,it is obvious that you have either broken wire between the switch and the motor. Try to test the failure by means of a tester circuit. Good Luck.

The Wiper fuse keeps blowing? Any Ideas?

Does the fuse blow as soon as you turn on the switch? Or do the wipers operate for a bit then the fuse blows? Will the wipers work in intermittent mode? Can you move the wipers by hand? Unless other wiring work has been done (eg radio replaced) I suspect the wiper motor is toast.

My 99 Ram 1500 keeps blowing the wiper fuse... I think it's a bad ground connection, but need a shematic to find it.

Fuses dont blow for bad connections, the blow because of a SHORT. Disconnect the wiper motor and then turn the switch on. if all is ok, then connect the wiper motor, if the fuse blows, the wiper motor MAY be bad

Keeps blowing the fuse to the wipers

Try unplug the wiper motor, then see if the fuse blows. If yes, it may be the switch,or wiring. If no, the motor is the problem.

Either the wiper motor or the wires going to it are shorting out. First unplug the wiper motor replace the fuse try the wipers again if the fuse blows again then check the wire loom for a bare wire Check the colour of the wires at the plug on the motor. The most likely place for the wires to short out are at the switch. It may be an easier job to rewire ther wipers as there is a lot of wires in the loom. If you need to know how to rewire it get back to me and I will guide you through it

Wiper fuse keeps blowing

Lets deal with the fan. Only two things can cause a fuse to pop. A short in the wiper motor. Unplug the connector on it. It the fuse does not blow now you need a wiper moter. If it still blows the positve wire going to the motor is touching medal somewhere. You will need to inspect the wire going from the fuse block to the wiper motor. . Also sounds like you have no power to the brake switch.. Another fuse issue or a broken wire somwhere before where you bypassed the switch

2001 sonata wiper fuse keeps blowing

If the fuse blows as soon as you put it in and the wipers are off then you have a short between the fuse block and the wiper switch.

If the fuse blows only when you turn the wipers on then more than likely the wiper motor has shorted and burned out. This one is very likely if the snow storm was heavy and you was driving in it. Cause- Moving large amounts of snow and ice off the window puts a heavy load on the wiper motors.
