1990 dodge caravan, won't keep a charge. Already changed alternator and battery

Either something is draining power from the battery with the key off, or the battery has an internal short.
Have you checked to see which problem exists by leaving the battery disconnected overnight ?

My 91 firebird battery keep draining put new alt on test fine new battery fine drove it for a half hour and it died again whats wrong

You have a power drain ...and it sounds like a big one. Basically there will be a short somewhere in your cars wiring causing the power to drain from your battery, I would also check your car stereo wiring as sometimes they are the fault

My car battery keeps getting drained, i changed the alternator twice we checked the fuses as well, the alternator is fine and fuses our fine the battery is new but is drained, please help

You need to put an AMP Meter in series with either battery cable, and then look for a circuit not timing out, after you remove the key.
May take 20 minutes.
Anything over 40 Milli-Amps is too much
Start pulling fuses one at a time, to find circuit, then you need a wiring schematic of complete vehicle to find problem.

I always purchase shop manuals and wire diagrams, as soon as I buy a new vehicle. Will need owners manual -for fuses.

I have a short that causes battery to go down. checked fuses and #1 fuse in main fuse box is draining by battery. I need a wiring diagram to help me. can you help with this problem?, has factory wiring diagram manual. Have to buy it.

If you had a short, a fuse would open, and the circuit effecting your battery drain, would not be an issue.
You have a module not timing out or other electronic current drain, from a failed component.
You will find the issue,as you said, with a wiring schematic and proper trouble shooting

Have a 1990 Pontiac Sunbird.Charging problem, replaced alternator and battery still same problem. Is there a fuseable like wire coming off of the alternator harness somewhere I need to look at.

If the old alternator had a shorted diode, it would have blown the fuseable link which is located somewhere between the alternator +12 volt terminal and the starter solenoid--it should be hanging out of the wiring harness and look burned if open. Be sure to replace it with the correct part and use crimped '****' splices to reconnect. The battery should show over 13.5 volts when the alternator is providing charge. Hope this helps!

I have replaced the battery several times and put in a new alternator but the battery keeps on dieing no me. I think something is shorting out the battery but I am not 100% sure. If I had a diagram of the...

Are the battery cables tight on the battery? If not then you will create an arcing on the battery terminal which will drain the battery. I would say that you have a short somewhere or there is a light staying on that you don't know about.

Also how clean are the battery cables? Do they have corrosion on them? How does the wires look connection to the battery? Are they old and broken looking?

Post you answer and we can go from there.

Good Luck,

Windshield wipers will not work, battery drains

do you have a light bulb in the glove box? if so pull it out, and it sounds to me like the multifunction switch is malfunctioning, the battery being low would cause the radio not to work if the voltage drops beloow 11 volts so try the multi function switch, if you can follow a wiring diagram then go to buy a subscription for your car clcik on search and type in symptom also look at recalls for your car that wil help you to figure out what is wrong if you need more assistance let me know.
