Hi,well i hate to be the one to tell you, but your first gear synchronizer is going out,and trany will have to be removed, and split open to fix it,and while your in there might as well change all of them, its more common on sports cars, and more common in 1rst gear because that's the one people are always hammering the throttle on.does it do it only when taking off the line hard? or is it doing it when you take off slow also? if its only doing it when you take off hard(fast) but not doing it when you take off slow, you have a little more time before it totally goes out! but if its doing it even when you take off slow, then its getting ready to go for good.if it goes before you get fixed at least it wont leave you stranded because you can take off in second gear to get you home or to shop....sorry to be the one to tell you, most guys on here would not have replied to your post, afraid to get the bad mark % knowing you would not be happy about the answer(reply) but now that you know what it is you can fix it...I had a 72 camaro with a 4-speed muncie aluminum housing trany that did the same thing to me.( all the years of white smoking the tires off the line) good luck..yz-maniac.

1st and 5th gear jumps out of it's position. Revers gear do's not engage gear from time to time

if this is a manual gearbox then its the indent springs in the selector rod movement inside the gearbox and this will involve removing the gearbox if i have correctly located the fault ,but without the make and model of vehicle i cannot say for certain as it could be the gearchange mechanism movement inside the cars cab and if tis cable then a outer sheaf on a cable could be loose and come out of its crimped holder

On an 1984 S10 speedometer hand jumps from 0-15mph then levels out. I changed the cable and it didnt help. Could it be the gear in the trans.

Its not the cable problem, its the little fiberglass/plastic gear in the gearbox where the cable goes in the gearbox, it becomes like an apple cord after much use. Take the cable off from the gearbox and pull the plastic gear out of the gearbox with a small hook and change it, you will be fine.

In 2008 first 4th gear and later 2nd and 4th gears kept jumping out. I was told that all the bearings and other components inside the gearbox were worn out so Ihad them overhaul the gearbox. A few months...

a gear box place should know more than me but this can also be caused bye a little ball bearing and spring .... these 2 things push on the selecter shafts and fit in to a groove that holds the shaft in the right spot .. that is what u feel when u change gear and it stays in position ....... the spring - springs can looz tention .. brake or the ball can wear or the groov it sits in to can do the same making it not hold in position ... 2nd and 4th are prob on the same shaft and this problem useully happens under load or taking off quick ........ i think they call them retainer springs and ball

My mazda e1600 jumps out of reverse after replcing the clutch and presher plate

Check that the linkages are connected corectly and are not fouled stopping the gearbox going all the way into gear. Also There is a posibility that you have gotten dirt of something betweeen the bell haouing and the back of the engine or the dowels are missing. This can cause a missalignment of the front shaft of the gearbox causing the gear contact to push each other away causing it to jump out of gear.

It acts as though it is not going into gear when you take off and then it jumps into gear.

possible syncromeshing is worn out on the gear box. the syncromesh is a small clutch like part of your gearbox if this has stopped then the gear selection will be jumpy they call this crunch gear box.

either way you will most likely needs a new gearbox.

the other issue might be the cluthch is snatching if the vehicle is automatic then it will be the gearbox.

i hope this was useful

Terrano gearbox keeps jumping out of overdrive and

Nissan Terrano's have an Electronic Computer that controls the gearbox. It is hidden behind the left hand rear Speaker box, right hard up against the rear seat back rest. This system controls all functions regarding the gearbox and it's rev rates. If your vehicle is shifting back on long drives then it is possible that the computer sees any slight increase in revs as a desire to "Kickback" the gearbox to a lower gearing, hence it dropping out of overdrive. Unfortunately a gearbox specialist with a computer "Plug-in" is needed to fix this, but it is fixable. This problem should not be too expensive in comparison with a new gearbox.

While driving in 5th gear, will jump out of gear. have to hold it in gear. other gears fine

This could be an internal problem in the gearbox but could also be caused by a worn engine or gearbox mount causing the gear shift to push against the console. Could also be a problem with the rubber boot or the swivel mechanism on the shift lever.
