Question about 1999 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

Car will stall out while running and be problematic to start again. Once car starts again it runs fine. Engine codes will come up for egr tps and vacuum leak. tps has been changed since this problem started to occur. Once the car has been restarted and the codes cleared it runs perfectly for another 100 miles or so and does it all over again.

I would take a good look at the egr valve and the controls if its vac controled if its all electric then just the valve itself, this sounds like the valve may be staying stuck open and causing engine to stall also make sure the ports going into intake are clean and not getting plugged with carbon build up, this is where i would start, this should take care of the egr code and maybe the vacuum leak also.

Retest it and post all the codes received, also do a engine running fault code test (requires a full function scan tool). Check for engine vacuum leaks and check the EGR valve for leaking.

I would replace the fuel filter, double check your work and make sure that all plug wires are securely connected and going to the right place (we all make mistakes sometimes) and check or replace the coil.

93 4.3 astro starts then stalls. Once It starts and stalls a few times it will run well. It will stall randomely while driving maybe once every 5 miles. I had the check engine go on only once and the code...

you have a device that controls your idle speed called the idle air control valve. When it gets gummed up your engine may stall. However, the problem sounds more like the fuel pump, it's relay, or its ground. The ground is located on the left frame rail at the rear of the van. sometimes corrosion will cause a bad ground. You have many other sensor that can be bad, or connections to. when you say stall do you mean it will cut off while driving down the road or only when you let off the gas pedal to idle?

1988 olds 98 sets engine codes 41,48, and 63. stalls intermittently, but starts up again and runs fine. Before it stalls, the speedomoter blips down to half the speed and goes back up to the correct speed.

41- cam sensor reading, 48- EGR , 63- cruise control, 20 mph or more over set speed ( sounds like the speedo prob ).My thinking is the cam sensor code and egr code contribute to your stalling problem . Clear computer codes by pushing OFF and HI on A/C panel ( if its an AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROL )ater reading codes. Then drive till problem occurs again and the light comes on. Now, read the CURRENT CODES, and that might eliminate one the codes / causes. Hope this helps

Throttle/Idle/running problem - wants to run too fast, or stall out

RPM's up and down check EGR valve and sensor. EGR valve and sensor control idle. That's why your getting the surging on rpm's and this could be giving out the other codes. If mass flow was bad car will not start and the same for the map sensor. O2 sensor measures gas and air for right mixer. TPS controls 0-60 speed as in throttle respons.

Car running jerky

It's more than likely that it is just another sensor. Is your check engine light on? Common sensors that can cause that type of problem are MAP(Manifold Absoulute Pressure Sensor) or TPS(Throttle Position Sensor). Typically the MAP sensor would turn on your check engine light and the TPS would not turn on the check engine light. Another possilble cause is the EGR Valve(Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve) and this valve also would not turn on your check engine light.

Good Luck
Hope this helps
