Will yours start in nutral .Should not , but start only in park ..You have a inhibitor switch in the gear selector base .Needs checking out and replacing
first thing check make sure battery 12.6 volts and battery cables clean free from corrossion. if battery cables old as vechicle bad ground cable or positive cable prevent vechicle from starting.if all is good remove check starter and starter solenoid.if both okay problem either faulty ignition switch or the inhibitor switch to keep vechicle from starting in gear.
It's either a faulty starter inhibitor switch or a faulty starter solenoid. The fact that the fuel pump does not power up points strongly to the inhibitor switch. Try another one, they're not expensive.
The inhibitor switch is located on the left/driver's side of the transmission and is responsible for info such as which spot the selector is in and whether it is in park or neutral to close the starting circuit.
Hello! The inhibitor switch needs to be adjusted or replaced...It is located on the manual control linkage of the automatic transmission shifter...The inhibitor switch has two "jobs"...#1 it acts as a starter relay and #2 it turns on your back-up lights...That portion of the switch (pins 3 and 8) wire colors Green/Black and Blue/White is staying closed...Guru......Saailer
check gearbox oil level remove gear lever switch check feed to switch with meter or test lamp no feed check fuse if ok put 2 wires together car in 4th gear ignition on should hear click from overdrive solenoied if ok fit new switch if not check wires from lever to gearbox for breaks think you might find problem here if not check inhibitor switch and then solenoid hope this helps you
There are a number of possibilities.
1) Dead battery. If the lights are OK and don't dim when you attempt to crank, then the battery may be OK.
2) Bad starter relay. If the battery is OK and you don't hear a click when you turn the key, the relay may be bad. They are cheap to replace.
3) If the ignition switch where you are turning the key is bad, then it won't start. To diagnose this, wiggle the key and see if that helps. Also move the key into different positions to see if one will cause it to start.
4) Your car is equipped with an electronic start inhibitor (immobilizer). The keys you received with your car are specially coded. The code in the key is transmitted to an antenna in the ignition switch where it is compared to the code stored in the start inhibitor module. The car can only be started if a properly coded key is used. If two of the keys to your car are close together, e.g., on the same key ring, when you try to start the car, this could cause interference in the immobilizer system and result in the car not starting. If this should occur, remove one of the keys from the key ring before trying to start the car again.
how are the plug wires, boosted engine's suffer from voltage leaks in even fairly new plug wires, the added cylinder pressure makes the spark plug require allot more voltage before it can fire compared to normally aspirated engine.
eh , Automatic transaxel Range (TR) switch , can also be referred to as the Inhibitor Switch , personally i would call it the neutralsafety switch , anyway you can find the "inhibitor" switch on top left side of transaxel , it goes over the shifter shaft coming out of the trans where the shifter cable bolts onto . Looks like a 1/4 of a circle . cheers mate
