You should be able to move the wheel just a hair to unlock the ignition, It is binding up the lock. If that is not the problem, you have 3 locks on there that tie into the transmission, But they have nothing to do with the steering wheel lock, so try to move the wheel and turn the key at the same time, if you still have trouble, get back to me, I'll give you the rest. Hope this helps.

Boy, that was quick. What happened to the car that would make the steering wheel lock and not start??/ Is it parked on a curb with the wheel tight on it? The 3 locks on the tranny, should not have any effect on the steering wheel lock, but, you have one in the ignition it self, it is a wire, a mechanical device that pull a physical pin out of the steering wheel, One is on the brake pedal, it is a solenoid that pulls the lock pin out of the shifter, and the third is on the shifter itself, a solenoid that locks the shifter. pedal one prevents it from going into gear with the brake off. So, unless you are hitting the curb, or something snapped in the column itself, with your foot on the brake, and your hand on the wheel and the key, you should be able to unlock the wheel and turn the key at the same time. If you can't, I would say the ignition is busted up top and you need to remove the pin from the steering wheel lock. Or,, check the key, make sure it is the right key, does it have a chip in it?? It is real hard to get in there without knowing how to do it, most people end up wrecking stuff trying to take the ignitions apart. Hope this helps.

Try turning the wheel when you are trying the key. Sometimes the steering wheel lock gets into a bind and you have to release the pressure from the steering wheel to get the key to turn.

I have 2003 ford focus -the key will go in ignition but won't turn. Also wheels are straight but steering wheel is turned n will not move..can anyone please help me?

It sounds like the steering wheel lock is in a bind. I suggest you put one hand on the key and the other on top of the steering wheel. You then try moving the wheel slightly to one side then the other as you try to turn the key. It might take a bit of oomph to get the steering wheel to move. I hope this helps.

I have a ford focus 2003- today when I exited the car nothing was unusual..when I went to try to go to work the key will go in ignition but won't turn AT ALL. Anyone know what I can do to fix it?

your steering wheel has tension on it - are your front wheels parked against a curb or were you turning your steering wheel while you shut off the car? Try pulling hard left and turning the key. If that doesn't work, pull hard right while turning the key. You may have to pull really hard if you are a smaller person.

Key will not turn wheel wont move and cant shift gears what can it be

You have locked the steering wheel. You will need to be forceful with the steering wheel and keep trying to turn the key when turning the steering wheel. It will eventually let you turn the key and start the car.

Good Luck,

If you turn the steering wheel in either direction and the key switch does not free up , then you need to have the lock cylnder replaced.
