This is most likely a faulty speed sensor on the transmission but may be a faulty Dash board controller. This should be electronic. If there is no voltage on the wires going to the speedometer it is the Speed sensor or TCM.

Now if you mean the needle is stuck below the pin that sits at zero, get it out on the interstate and hit 90. It'll jump over on its own.

Why are you posting a response to the original poster from my reply? In an Electronic Speedometer what you recommend is not only dangerous and Illegal it will not work. In the older systems that were cable controlled it might have but I doubt it. If you desire to post solutions I have no problem with that and welcome it. As long as you are posting them as your own. Please don't do this again.

SOURCE: speedometer quit working. 80,000 miles needle

Your speedometer is fully electric and the sensor at the transmission side is not sending pulse to the computer ECU.

The part is call Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).

There are two versions.

16 bolts and 17 bolts transmission pan version.

Count the number of bolts on your transmission pan before you head for the part store.

Please rate my answer if it's useful to you.

SOURCE: Speedometer is stuck under zero

Pull the rubber trip reset pin out slowly so all you see is the hole & the shaft. Take a long tin-tie (about 5 inch) & fish it inside the speedo to the needle & carefully bring it back counterclockwise when its back at least to "2-3 O'clock" hold it & turn your switch to coil...the needle will go back to zero. keep the tin-tie in your coin box if ever it happens again!

How do I fix speedometer that is stuck below zero?

dealer might be able to fix with the computer diagnostic tool. If there is a push button to reset odometer you can take a small wire and try and feed through the hole and raise needle above the pin. removing the instrument cluster cover is a pretty big task, if you cant find a place to insert a wire, only bypass I can suggest is drilling a tiny hole in the instrument cluster cover off to the side or top wherever the hole is least bothersome to you and then use a wire to raise above pin, after put a little clear silicone or a piece of tape over the hole to prevent dust building up inside the cluster

The car is an automatic.

When you say the speedometer does not work, do you mean the needle is stuck at certain speed or is at zero all the time.. If it is at zero all the time, replace your meter. If it's stuck at certain speed, give it a knock with your fingers. And if that do not work, drill a pin hole with a fine drill just above the position where the needle is stuck and using a fine thin wire, push the needle back to zero position.

Speedometer needle problem

Sounds like the pin that the speedometer needle rests on at "0" got broken off. If you think you can take everything apart and fiddle some sort of improvisory repair for that pin, then jump in there and have at it. Note that needle calibration may be damaged and it will never read right again, regardless. Otherwise- new speedometer.

Why is my speedometer and odometer stuck at zero?

Could be a problem with the engine computer, or the speed sensor in the transmission.
Is the check engine light on ?

Do not listen to these idiots. This vehicle has no cable, for one. It is an electronic unit. I had the same issue with my 01 Caravan. You can fix it by simply taking the instrument panel out, turn it upside down, and the the rest of the way around to bring the needle back around to the proper side. To remove the panel, there are two phillips screws under the top part of the black bezel. Then, the center part of the bottom bezel will simply lift up, revealing two more screws. Remove the black bezel by tilting the wheel all the way down and shimmy it out. There are four more screws holding the panel in. Remove these and the panel will have three plugs in the rear. Simply unplug them and remove the panel. Once you have it out, turn it clockwise slowly. This will bring the speedometer needle back to its normal position. If it does this again, i suggest replacing the output sensor on the transmission.
