Is the engine shaking and loosing power?? This may be ignition coils failing, and they're 8 of them. Ford's coils usually fail after 65K miles, and may last up to 120K. Typical issues start randomly and will get worst, shaking/misfire/shudder around 55-65MPH with foot on pedal or trying to speed up. If this issue isn't corrected it will get worst, and the vehicle may stall/die.

Possibly wheel out of balance or out of round. May need front end alignment.

What causes shaking while accelerating

Mrs Amanda when you said on pushing the gas pedal is shaking do you mean the whilst accelerating with engine running ( reving) you do receive a shake? or when pushing the pedal you do feel on the pedal with engine off a shake? If it is the first check for any spark plug or spark plug HT Lead not working and cause the engine to shake. If is the second cause then check for your pedal connection cable etc.

Steering wheel shakes violently when traveling over 55mph. What is the problem.?

front tires need to be balanced, make sure tires still have enough tread and front end does not have any worn parts such as inner and outer tie rods and upper and lower ball joints. also check and correct tires air pressure.

2003 Ford Ranger Pickup traveling down the road

Is there somthing hitting the gas pedal, like the floor mat? Or maybe something under the dash came loose and is getting caught under the brake pedal and pushing on the gas. Put the shifter in neutral if you get into a situation where going to hit something or someone. The engine has a rev limiter, to prevent it from over reving.

It sounds like you need a tune change at least the wires and plugs it also could be a worn or broke motor or tranny mount.

Sounds like you have a Bad ground to the Engine Block,
Add a second Ground to the Engine Block, Every time you hit the Gas the Engine lifts up and you lose ground..
