Do you have battery power? If not, I'm not sure the key switch will unlock.

Good luck.

I can not turn the key to start the car

If the key is inserted all the way, press the brake petal down and adjust your gear selection lever until it is solidly in Park. The key will not turn if the transmission is engaged. On vehicles with steering column ignition this issue is usually because the steering wheel is turned effecting the locking mechanism on the ignition switch.

Key will not turn in the ignition

1) The steering is locked to one end, and exerting pressure on the ignition. On extreme cases, very hard wiggling of the steering wheel is required while trying to turn the key. 2) The shifter lever is just slightly out of Park or neutral, and it will prevent the ignition from turning. 3) Ignition switch mechanicals are starting to go bad (very rare)

Key won't turn in ignition...should I replace the lock cylinder, or is there something else I should try...? 2005 chevy impala

Try rocking the steering wheel back and forth. Also even though the tumbler is the cause most of the time you should check the electrical part of the switch at times when it goes it won't allow the key to turn. Rocking the steering wheel is so that you can make sure that it is not turning due to the steering lock putting to much pressure on the tumbler.

2005 Chevy Impala key seats in ignition but will not turn

With the key in the ignition try turning the steering wheel side to side, it may require a bit of force in either direction to get the wheel freed up and allow the key to turn. This happens when you don't allow the steering wheel to come to a resting spot before removing the key from the ignition.

this is usually caused by the steering wheel. Try wiggling the steerung wheel while turning the key back to the "Lock" position.

Not sure what you mean by a head unit, but best thing to do is to start taking it apart again 'till the key is again free...then look to see what was binding.
