Procedure for replacing rear whl brgs on a 2003 escape awd

4-Wheel Drive
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Rear wheel
    • Rear brake shoes
    • Rear halfshaft nut and loosen the halfshaft from the hub
    • Wheel hub and place it in a vise
    • Inner wheel bearing race from the hub
    • Antilock Brake System (ABS) sensor bracket and move the sensor aside, if equipped
    • Parking brake cable from the steering knuckle
    • Brake line from the wheel cylinder and support the knuckle
    • Lower shock absorber nut
    • Lower ball joint by holding the ball joint stud
    • Upper ball joint
    • Coil spring while noting the location of the insulator
    • Steering knuckle cam
    • Steering knuckle
    • Snapring and press out the outer wheel bearing race from the knuckle

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
    • New wheel bearing into the steering knuckle
    • Snapring to the knuckle
    • Wheel hub
    • Steering knuckle cam and hand tighten the bolt
    • Coil spring
    • Shock absorber lower nut. Torque the nut to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm) for 2002-04 models; 129 ft. lbs. (175 Nm).
    • Upper ball joint. Torque the nut to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).
    • Lower ball joint. Torque the nut to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm). Align the steering knuckle cam and torque the bolt to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
    • Brake line to the wheel cylinder. Torque the brake line bracket bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) and the brake line fastener to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
    • Parking brake cable to the backing plate. Torque the bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
    • ABS sensor bracket. Torque the bolt to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm), if equipped
    • Halfshaft nut. Torque the nut to 214 ft. lbs. (290 Nm).
    • Brake shoes
    • Rear wheel
    • Negative battery cable
  2. Fill and bleed the brake system.
  3. Check and adjust the wheel alignment as needed.

2-Wheel Drive
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Rear wheel
    • Rear brake drum
    • Wheel hub nut
    • Wheel hub
    • Inner wheel bearing race from the hub
    • Snapring
    • Wheel bearing outer race from the knuckle

To install:
Install or connect the following:

  • Wheel bearing in to the knuckle
  • Snapring
  • Wheel hub into the wheel bearing
  • Wheel hub nut. Torque the nut to 214 ft. lbs. (290 Nm).

  • Negative battery cable

How to replace rear wheel bearing on 2003 hyandia sonata

Hub & Bearing Removal & Installation To Remove:

  1. Release parking brake.
  2. Remove rear wheel assembly.
  3. Remove rear wheel speed sensor from carrier.
  4. Dismount brake caliper and support with mechanic's wire.
  5. Remove brake disc.
  6. Remove 4 axle hub mounting bolts. Special tool 09432-11000 (Typical) hyundai-08-00-6021.gif

  7. Using tool 09432-11000 (or suitable gear puller), remove tone wheel.
  8. Remove carrier.
  9. Remove stakes and remove flange nut.
  10. Support bearing outer race flange and press rear axle hub out.
  11. Using tool 09432-11000 (or suitable puller), remove inner race from axle hub.
To Install:

  1. Apply thin coat of grease to bearing contact surface and hub.
  2. Using and appropriate tool, press bearing into hub. CAUTION
    Do not press against outer race of wheel bearing.
  3. Install flange nut and stake nut until it meets concave portion of spindle.
  4. Install carrier.
  5. Use an appropriate tool to press tone wheel.
  6. Install hub/bearing assembly with rounded portion of outer race facing up.
  7. Install 4 hub/bearing assembly bolts and rotate hub to seat bearing.
  8. Measure wheel bearing starting torque with a spring balance or equivalent device.
    • Starting torque should measure 15.9 in lb (1.8 Nm) or less
  9. Install brake disc.
  10. Mount brake caliper.
  11. Install rear wheel speed sensor to carrier.
  12. Install rear wheel assembly.

A Front Wheel Drive Vehicle Can Have Two Types Of Rear Wheel Bearings: Serviceable Bearings, Or Nonserviceable, Sealed Bearings. When Sealed Bearings Fail, The Bolts Holding The Bearing And Hub To The Axel Or Control Arm Must Be Removed. When Installing The New Bearing Assembly, Torque The Bolts To Specifications.Some Manufacturers require The Use Of New Fasteners When Rear Bearings And Hubs Are Replaced.

When A Serviceable Wheel Bearing Is Used, The Bearing Can Be Disassembled And Packed With Grease.It Is Serviced Like A Front Wheel Bearing On A Rear-wheel-Drive-Car.

Ho do I replace the rear wheel bearings in my 2004 dodge SX 2.0

Remove the wheelcover.Loose but do not remove the lugnuts on the wheel. Jack up the vehicle enough to free that wheel from the surface it is on. Place a small jackstand or some wood blocks under the chassis to be safe. Remove the lugnuts and wheel and set them aside together.In the center is the wheel bearing hubcap, remove this by pry all around the edges with a large flathead screwdriver. place the cap, AND, all parts that you remove on a clean piece of cardboard. Next youll see a cotter pin, bend and remove this with a heavy set of cutting pliers, it is not necessary to use a new cotter pin although it is recommended. Under the cotter is a castlated nut that allows for keeping the wheelbearing nut a the correct tension. This will just lift off. You will then remove the wheel bearing retaining nut, this "should" be be quite simple to remove fro it is only tensioned enough to remove any play in the hub assembly. Next remove the caliped mount from the rear side of the brake guard plate, there will be two large bolts probably 17mm or 19mm, you'll be able to figure that out for yourself. After removing the mount slide the entire hub off the spindle, taking care not to let the outer wheel bearing fall from it's housing. Lay the assembly across two short pieces of 2X4, take out the outer wheel bearing and place it on the cardboard. Take note, also that the smaller diameter of the bearings face inward from the front and from the rear.Take a block of 1 inch X12 inch piece of wood or a wooden hammer handle and slip it into the opening until you feel a resistance, when you do strike the hammer head with your hand, this will pop out the rear bearing and seal (make sure they land on something clean if you plan to reuse them. Now it gets a little tricky. Take a foot long steel punch with a 1/4 inch diameter head(flat) and in a clockwise moyion strike the punch with abrupt but equal hits until you've driven out the bottom bearing race. Flip it over and do the same for the outer race.Clean the hub assy. completely. Next take a brass drift punch and after setting the bearing race with the thinner side out, hold it with your hand and start tapping in a circular motion until the race is "fully" seated on the shoulder provided.Repeat this procedure for the outer race. Wipe about a golfball size glob of bearing grease around the inner bore between the two races, this is purely to protect the hhub from unnecessary rust.Pack your new bearings with grease. Place the inner bearing into the race and lock the seal into its spot again with a light circular tapping motion until it is seated flush with the hub surface. Take ahand full of clean grease and spread it over the wheel hub spindle. Slide the assy. on and place the outer bearing onto the assy. place the large flat washer onto the bearing and then screww the tensioning nut on by hand until it stops. At this point you want to take a 10 inch adjusable wrench and tighten don the bearing slighty and easily until it stops, then back it off about a third of a turn and using the weight of the wrench handle as a guage just let it fall into place a couple times. This has proven over the decades to be the most precise way to correctly tighten the assy. Follow these previously given steps very carefully, and you'll do an ace job. At any point "NEVER" apply more pressure to the assy. than I have explained.Replace the castlelated nut by putting it in serveral different clock positions until the hole for the cotter pin is open on both ends. aplly the new cotter pin, hubcap and disk brake mount assy. drum brakes you remove rear wheel- speed sensor-grease cap-flange nut-outer bearing-brake drum-inner grease seal-inner bearing-drive the bearing races out of the drum install -install the inner and outer bearing races.apply grease to the bearings and hub cavity.then you install the inner bearing -inner grease seal-brake drum-outer bearing-flange nut torque it to 159 to 192 ft lbs. THE REAR DISC BRAKE WHEEL BEARINGS-you have to remove rear wheel -wheel speed sensor-brake caliper and rotor-rear axle hub bolts-tone the wheel with tool 09445-21000-carrier assembly-nut after unstaking it-press out the rear axle hub-remove the bearing inner race with tool 09445-21000-remove the bushings from the carrier with tools 09453-33000b and install -press in the bushings to the carrier with tools 09453-33000b and 09545-21100- press in the bearings to the hub with tool 09221-21000.tighten the flange nut to meet the concave portion of the spindle-press in the tone wheel with tool 09221-21000-torque the nut to 191 ft lbs -install the hub and bearing assembly to the backing plate and torque the bolts to 88 ft lbs-install the brake caliper and rotor.install the wheel speed sensor if equipped.install the rear wheel.TO BUY THE TOOLS TO DO THE JOB.LOOK UP KENT MOORE TOOLS ON INTERNET.

How to change a rear wheel bearing on a 1994 toyota camry

The rear wheel bearing on a toyota camry is replaced by replacing the wheel bearing and hub as a unit. this is a design change as compare to older models with two piece wheel bearings. Scotch drive wheels. Remove rear wheel. Remove rear brake drum. (note: if emergency brakes are applied you will not be able to remove brake drum) Remove dust cap and hub retaining nut. Hub should slide off as unit. Replace hub with new unit. Installation is reverse of removal.

you have to set theself adjuster to the fully released position .place a suitable tool against the adjuser cam and push it to the released position. in stall brake drum .pre load wheel bearing . pump brakes several times to set the self adjuster.

Procedure to replace rear bearing (outer)

1- remove the wheel.
2-remove the drum brake if it is tight relece the hand brake also loose brake adjusment.
3- remove brake pipe and hand brake connections.
4-on the back you can see 4nuts where barke housing fitted to the exle.
5- dont remove brake shoes.
6-pull the housing from the exle .
after all that remove the housing carefully hold your two hand both sides now you get out all assemply put on the work bench you need specila puller to remove the bearing the brearing is in the back look the front side of the drave shaft the end of the brake housing.
when you remove the old one put new one use the hydrolic pressure.
check the oil seal the end of the exle.

Easy job ! just rem to get a gear puller for the antilock gear and install same as came off old one Parts around 100$ each apx 1/2 hr each side
