Put the car on ramps and remove all of the bolts clean the old gasket off and put a little gasket seal on the bottom of the gasket to hold it in place and put back together and make sure you put the right kind of transmission fluid back in it give these websites a try and if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your car wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.

How to replace a oil pan gasket 2003 mercury sable

1st. Can you remove the oil pan without partially removing the engine? If - YOU CAN'T - take it to a local ASE Professional. Concerns: 1 - rear main seal, will it be damaged when you remove the oil pan. 2. Front oil seal, pan seal, same concern? Lets assume you can remove the oil pan, ok, ... you MUST get the TWO gasket surfaces clean, smooth, I mean REAL CLEAN. SIT THE oil pan with the gasket surface up and flat, ..CLEAN THE GASKET SURFACES AND EVERY BOLT with QUICK EVAPORATING brake cleaner or acetone. Let then dry. Get some Permatex spray "red" gasket glue/sealer. Spray the pan side of the gasket with the red glue, carefully lay the gasket on the pan, use the bolts to locate the gasket, make sure the gasket is seated against the pan 100% around the edges!!!! Let the gasket dry overnight!! Then spray the face of the gasket with the red sealant before installing, do it while its still tacky. tighten all bolts finger tight, then start a criss cross pattern, start slowly tightening them (WITH A QUALITY TORQUE WRENCH) TO 50% OF RECOMMENDED.VALUE, keeping the criss cross pattern to 75%, then to 100 - 110% of FACTORY SPECIFICATION. This should stop all gasket caused leaks!!

2001 sable oil pan

Sounds like he is just going to reseal the pan it is very labor intensive and the price id about right as the exhaust has to be dropped down to access the pan and bolts plus the clean up of the mating services if you get it done demand he install the FELPO OS30717R they fixed the problem with the oem gaskets it cost a little more but well worth the money and no future headaches

My 2001 Excursion Diesel is leaking oil from the oil pan gasket. Can I just drop the pan to replace the gasket (with a slight forward maneuvering) or do I have to drop the cross bar directly beneath the...

If it is in fact the oil pan gasket that is leaking, then you would first need to drain out the oil through the oil drain plug and recycle the oil. Then you can remove the oil pan and replace the old gasket with a new one, refill with the proper amount of oil. Then you can run the car and see if it still leaks.

How do I drain transmission fluid (2000 sable ls(dohc))?

On an automatic tranny, the tranny oil pan is removed to drain the tranny fluid - a somewhat messy job. Typically when this done the tranny filler is replaced. A new pan gasket is installed in this procedure.
On the manual tranny, there is a drain plug at the bottom side of the tranny to drain the oil.
I have used a home made setup using a suction pump with small diameter tubing to **** the fluid out from the tranny filler tube. This is when I was replacing the filter and I dropped the pan. I did the suction routine to avoid all that fluid dripping out when you loosen the pan.
Have you located the leak? Is it from the tranny oil pan or maybe from a tranny cooler line?

How do I change oil filter

open the pan bolt on oil pan and drain all the oil.reinstall pan bolt. it is a 5/8 6 point socket,or 5/8 wrench.then you need an oil filter wrench.turn counterclockwise looking at the bottom of the filter.make sure the gasket is attached to the filter.,and not still on the car....install the new filter, putting a layer of oil on the gasket first.tighten till contact, then one not overtighten .fill with 3 litres and check the stick. keep adding until the full mark. start the car and let run 10 seconds, look underneath and make sure it is not leaking.
let sit 2 minutes and check again.the filter uses about 300ml,so top up til full and your'e done.
wipe up any excess around the pan bolt and filter.
