Probably your heater control valve. below is a replacement from autozone, but yours may look different. If it isn't the control valve, maybe it's a splice someone put in. The control valve is the only thing that comes stock in the heater hose.

Can I get a how-to on replacing the heater core in a 1997 Cadillac deville d'elegance?

It could be difficult, but I'll tell you some of the basic steps. Remove the 2 hoses going to the heater core, they are under the hood, more toward the passenger side back on the firewall, they attach to the heater core right there, pay attention to where each hose goes. You might need a special tool to remove those hoses due to the funny fitting they have on them. What I've done is cut them off and just use regular hose clamps on the hoses later. Now the fun part. Remove the plastic trim under the dash on the passenger's side, remove your glove box if you can to have better access. The heater core is inside a plastic cover, looks like a box, you need to remove the screws and take it apart to get to the heater core. Remove the heater core. Installation is reversed to removal. Do not put all the plastic pieces back till you are sure there is no leaks. Reattach your hoses and check your coolant level. Turn heat on and check for leaks, replace plastic trim and glove box. Done!!

How to replace my heater core in my Cadillac DeVille 1998?

First, according to the manual, disable the SIR system

Fuse panel in trunk behind back seat driver's side

Connection to left of steering column

Remove glove box
and unplug second SIR connector

Then remove bottom insulator panel and disconnect battery
HVAC programer can be pulled out of it's plastic cradle and then the top and bottom air door actuators must be removed

Then just two screws and you have the heater core uncovered.

My cadillac is not giving me any hot air ,ive replaced the radiator, changed the thermostat, has a new water pump, where do istart to look.

Feel the 2 tubes at the firewall for the heater core. If they are not getting hot, the heater core needs to be flushed out or replaced. I had this problem with a 1990 Cadilac Deville, it was just a plugged up heater core.

Remember to install sealant after flushing out the system to prevent leaks.

Cool air coming from my 1990 deville changed raditor and therm. still luke warm.

try backflushing the heater core, remove heater coolant hoses and flush both ways with a garden hose,do you have a air compressor ,blow water back through heater core both ways, this asuming that all valves are working allowing coolant to flow and all air doors in car are opening,if so this fix has worked many times for me in older cars note works better to hook water hose to hoses or a short peice of hose on heater core, good luck

My 1996 Cadillac Sedan Deville heater blows cool air and engine is running at normal temps. It never seems to get up to temperature.

If you are not the original owner, the previous owner may have bypassed the heater core. The heater core is like a small radiator that has hot water running through it from your motor. It is inside of your dash board, near your a/c and heater controls. That is how yur car gets hot air. The air runs through the heater core making it hot. Bypassing it is a cheap and quick fix for a leaking heater core. When they get a leak, they leak all inside the car down to the floor board. Check under the hood along the fire wall. If it is bypassed, you will see two hoses spliced together. One will be bigger that the other slightly. If this is your problem, you are more thatn likely need to replace your heater core

1984 Jeep CJ7 heater core leaking. '93 inline 6 motor. Wrangler dash. How to I remove the core?

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
  2. Disconnect heater core hoses.
  3. Disconnect damper door control cables.
  4. Disconnect blower motor electrical connector.
  5. Disconnect water drain hose and defroster hose.
  6. Remove nuts retaining heater housing assembly to instrument panel. Remove heater housing assembly by tilting heater downward to disengage it from air inlet duct and pulling toward rear of vehicle.
  7. Remove heater core from heater housing.
  8. Reverse procedure to install.

Heater cores out

Take both heater hoses off and hook them together with a piece of pipe and a couple of hose clamps.

What does a heater core do?

The heater core runs off of the cooling system, it is a small "radiator" behind the dash that sits in a box. when the heater core is full of hot coolant, it gives off heat and the blower motor pushes the hot air to the vents.

If a heater core ruptures, becomes clogged with parasites, or gets blocked in a hose (the 2 leading to the firewall under the hood on the passenger side) it causes the car to overheat, and/or leak.

my suggestion is to have the system pressure tested, and flushed if it checks out OK

1992 Cadillac deville heater bypass

the easiest way to by-pass the heater core is to take off both hoses at the fire wall and use a piece of hard tubing to insert in both hoses and use hose clamps it's quick and easy and should get you by. make sure you top off the coolant and do this with engine cold.
