SOUND LIKE VACUUM LEAK AT INTAKE MANIFOLD LOOK FOR STUCK OPEN PCV VALVE OR LEAKING EGR VALVE GASKET.CHECK MAP SENSOR VACUUM HOSE MAKE SURE ITS CONNECTED AND GETTING VACUUM OR CHECK FOR A DISCONNECTED ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR AT MAP SENSOR.IF ALL LOOK GOOD CHECK FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 40 - 50 PSI FOR 98 TO 2001 CADILLACS WITH 4.6 ENGINES CADILLACS 92 TO 97 MODELS WITH ENGINES 4.9 TO 3.8 FUEL PRESSURE 41 - 47 PSI. Results of combustion: Carbon dioxide and water. It is normal to see water coming out the tail pipe when it's cold, until the exhaust system warms up.

Did you replace the distributor cap and rotor as well ? Has the coil been checked for signs of arcing, carbon tracking ?

1983 ford ranger. carb has ben rebuilt. starts good. when i put into gear it wants to die then when you give it to much gas it sputters and wants to die


Do you have an OBD 1 code reader Iwould look at the EGR valve first take if off and look in side the two passages on the intake manifold see if they clogged with carbon. Then take the EGR valve hold it upside down and spray some WD40 on the pentile if it leaks through the EGR it no good . The other thing would be the catyiltic convertor is blocked with it running at idle see what you are getting for exhust flow from the tailpipe. I also now of an after market place that you could get any part for this vehicle you need you need for this vehicle you see i have an 85 ranger

TRUCK STALLS AND IS SPITTING OUT OIL FROM MUFFLER


If your oil is coming out your tailpipe your engine is burning it. Most likely the piston rings are worn and need replaced. That means rebuilding the engine and cost is going to be in the thousands. Probably between $2000-2500 for a re-ring job. You need to check if it is oil, or carbon/water. Take your finger and wipe the inside of the tailpipe. Is it slippery like oil, or gritty like water and carbon? If it is just carbon then it is no big deal.

If you have never had the spark plugs changed it is time to do so. Since you have drilled a hole in the cat you will need to replace it when your state inspection comes around becouse it wont pass. Some fuel injection cleaner will help with the sputtering. You should treat it with injection cleaner once a month since the plugs have been allowed to fowel and caused carbon build up in the cylinders.

1993 Geo Prizm is turning into a money pit. now it has an exhaust leak. It also sputters through all gears at the start. Could this be due to thw exhast leak or a bad fuel pump???


I don't think an exhaust leak would cause the sputtering in all gears. I've run my Geo in the past with a cracked exhaust manifold for months, and it ran fine, just a bit louder. Are your spark plugs & wires in good shape (missing vs sputtering)? Also check inside the distributor cap for corrosion/carbon build up. If all that is ok, then I would start with the basics: first try running a complete fuel system cleaner through it for the next two tanks, that should clear any partially clogged fuel injectors. If no luck, then replace the fuel filter, and try it, if it still sputters you can check the fuel pump strainer if it looks ok, then you might want to replace the fuel pump.
