2004 Maxima
IMPORTANT: Before entering programming mode, have in possession all of the transmitters you will be using on the vehicle. Once you program the transmitter, all previous codes will be erased from the memory. The other transmitters will not be functional until you program the transmitters again.
Close and lock all doors with the driver's side power lock/unlock switch.
Insert key into ignition and remove it from the ignition key cylinder at least six times within 10 seconds. Your Hazard Lamps will flash if you have performed this step successfully. NOTE: Withdraw key completely from ignition cylinder each time. If this procedure is performed too fast, system will not enter programming mode.
Insert key into the ignition cylinder and turn to the ACC position.
Within 5 seconds, push ANY button on the remote transmitter. Your Hazard Lamps should flash. NOTE: Do not press the button more than one time in the above step. If the button is pressed more than one time, the programming procedure will not be successful.
If there are any remaining transmitters (including the old ones), unlock then lock all doors using the driver's side power lock/unlock switch and within 5 seconds, push ANY button on the next remote. If you live "up north", I would be suspecting rust or corrosion inside the door mechanisms.
You should be needing to take all 4 door panels off, all the whilst remembering that the clips holding the door panels on may be plastic and are very easily broken.
You might need to take the inside door mechanisms apart and lubricate them.
Be sure to use a lubricant that will not evaporate or wash off with water.
I like silicone grease for this.
God bless your efforts.
Generally, when a shift lock solenoid/system goes bad you just zip tie the shift lock to unlocked position and that removes the need to depress the brake to shift out of park.
your battery is probably dead. Take the remote to Orielly auto parts and they have a tester that will tell you if the battery is dead. If the other buttons work on the remote then the remote itself is the problem and will need rplaced.
Take your car in to a dealership. They will remove the door panel, replace the lock, and put everything back together the way it was before. They will also check to be sure this fixed it.
the doors sould lock when you start t drive, they will not unlock when you stop, but the design of the inside door handle will unlock the door when is opened from the inside.
the link that holds the lock on the driver door could have gone loose and would not lock-unlock the door. open the door panel and check the lock mechanism. another thought would be the lock solenoid could have burn out. check the solenoid on the driver's door for resistance.
