My 95 Honda Accord Ex VTec engine died while driving on interstate without any warning and will not start back a new distrubitor and battery was put on and still will not start

Whenever I hear the statement, "shut off without any warning and will not start", the first thing I think of is the timing belt. It is often a forgotten maintenance item and when it finally fails, the results are immediate and dramatic. If the engine turns over very fast (faster than normal), and won't start, you can bet its a timing belt. Unfortunately, the VTec engine is an interference engine. This means that if the timing belt breaks, the results will be internal engine damage since the piston/valve clearances are no longer maintained by the belt. Simply replacing the belt, which many refuse to do because of the cost involved, will no longer solve the issue. Now, the costs are doubled since the cylinder head must be repaired or replaced, depending upon the amount of damage. There is even the possibility of damaged pistons. I hope for your sake this is not the issue, but if the car has more than 80K miles and the timing belt has never been replaced, it is the most likely problem.

Whats the cost to repair the timing belt on a Kia Magentis 55 plate

The cost if the timing belt part and labor will float around the 500.00 mark if it was routine maintenance service. Seeing how this is an interference engine, damage to head, valves and/or pistons may have occurred at which point cost will be contingent upon the severity if the damage. Price may be around the 1200.00 mark give or take. At this point it would be a good idea to weight your options.

What is the cost of replacing a timing belt?

That seems a bit high. Noemal R&R for a timing belt is more in the neighborhood of $750. If you have an "interference engine"-where the valves can hit a piston if the timing went awry- then I could understand the high estimate-possibly bent valves,...so you should find out from the shop manager. Maybe shop around for another estimate-especially if you know of a good, trustworthy shop. Try to get some specifics of what is involved-new belt, new tensioner, maybe an idler pulley...what else?

Timing belt broke...was told i need new engine..is this right?

The 2.4L four has a belt and is not an interference engine according to the Gates timing belt application chart for your vehicle (check it out on Gates.com.) The 2.7L V-6 doesn't show that it needs a belt--so it has either a timing chain and gears or just gears. If the belt broke on the 2.4L four, you should be able to put on a new belt and go. The engine should not be damaged.

If the timing chain on the V-6 broke then engine damage may have occurred. Chain engines are sometimes not listed as interference because breaking a chain is so rare. The damage would probably be bent valves and damaged piston tops. The labor involved in repairing all that might cost more than just getting a rebuilt engine and putting it in.

Timing belt clacking, engine light on, timing off, diagnostic code reads camshaft positioning sensor

It sounds like you may have a faulty timing tensioner,I would suggest you have a repair shop diagnose your issue. You may want to have it towed to avoid any engine damage.

WHERE IS THE TIMING BELT LOCATED ON MY 1998 VW PASSAT?

Timing belt is hidden under all accessories (alternator, A/C compressor, Power Steering pump, etc.) It is a difficult repair, on many VW models it requires removal of the whole 'front clip' which involves fenders, grill and radiator. Expect $600 -$800 cost. Usually the water pump should also be changed with timing belt - just because to tear engine down that far, it is a preventative step to save future problems.

Water pump chang on mitsubishi Galant 2.5 V6

Waterpump replacement requires removal and replacement of your timing belt. Because of this it is not your typical do it yourself repair. Engine timing is critical, and not having your belt set correctly can lead to catastrophic engine damage.

You can purchase a service manual at your local parts store to get an idea of what is involved, however this being an interference engine you should leave this job to a professional if you are uncertain enough about your abilities that you need to ask for help on it. The cost to replace the waterpump is far far less than the cost to repair a engine that had an incorrectly set timing belt.

Shot timing belt on 95 900 SE Saab

Your post mentions a belt in the title and then a chain in the text. If V-6, it is a belt, if 2.0 turbo, it is a chain. In either case, these are interference engines, meaning that the pistons will make contact with any valves stuck in the open position. Accordingly, there is head work involved when the timing is catastrophically interrupted. A very good repair will involve taking the engine out to remove the cover so that new guides can be installed for the chain and also the head will have to be pulled and some valves replaced. If damage to piston crowns occured, you may need one or two of these. Some shops have figured out how to weasel the engine around to remove the cover without full engine removal, saving some time. I do not think you can get out of this for under $3,000.00, unless you find a cheap used engine and do a simple swap. Even then, it will be close.
