SOURCE: i need a new rear bumper for my 2002 chevy monte

you will need the bumper and the mounting bolts. A junk yard will be your best bet for cheap. look in the yellow pages and start calling around until you find a good shop that does the work for a fair price.

Reach behind the bumper, there will be two brackets each with 2 or 4 bolts to remove. These are on each side of the bumper. Remove the bolts and the pumper will come off. Gently work your way around and pry of the cover.

SOURCE: replace a rear bumper and

  • Locate the hardware or mounting bolts of your truck's rear bumper Apply a decent coating of maxi film or mystery oil and let it soak through the rust.

  • 2

Turn the bolts counterclockwise with a socket wrench and ratchet, loosening each one until it is partially out of the mounting bolt seat.

  • 3

Grasp the bumper with one hand, then continue to loosen the bolts until you can remove the entire bumper. As you pull the bumper off the truck, make sure it is clear of all wiring, and disconnect any wires if needed.

  • 4

Install the mounting hardware in your new truck bumpers. This should be included with the bumpers. Line up the bumpers with the mounting holes.

  • 5

Line up the bumpers with the mounting holes and hand-tighten the bolts until the bumper can be held in place. Then, using your socket wrench, tighten the bumpers until they are secure against the truck body.

  • unless you have the factory receiver, then you have to take out ALL the bolts, even the ones under the step pads. I think there are 10 of them. Or. . . you could remove the receiver before you pull the bumper.

Otherwise two bolts on the left and two on the right against the frame. Unplug the wiring harness and pull out.
    Then pry off the cover

Put new after market rear bumper on my 2002 chevy Silverado 2500hd and my new license plate light has one wire and old light has 2 wire so I just connected the hot wire to new light and now my rear tail...

Check for that fuse in a fuse panel under the dash.
That second wire from the old light is a ground wire, whereas the new light's socket is case grounded if there is no ground wire for the light. If the fuse for the tail lights is good, check if the tail lights lost a ground .

How to remove the front bumper cover on 2002 avalanche & how to remove the rear bumper cover

Remove all eight small set screws (4) on each side in the fender wheel wells. Then remove the four secure bolts on undercarriage of bumper (4). Take a screw driver. (flathead) to the upper portions of both the left and right side of the bumper. Be careful....... These are extremely fragile and you may need to replace them before replacing the bumper. Then comes a bit unnerving part. Removal of the bumper........ (This scarred the **** out of me!!!!) just grab ahold of one of the corners, then gradually pull! That's it. The clips will come out gradually and evenly.
