Question about 2002 Mercury Sable

2 Answers

All four power windows don't work. I can't find any info in the manual which describes which fuse might be at fault. Also, only the two power door locks (F & R) on the driver side work. I need a solution.

    Hey Lee,

I'll check this out ASAP. My wife just got pissed off and left in a huff, taking the car BC the problem has been going on for three years, ever since the Ford-Mercury dealership put a new rear bumper on the car.
I'm disabled and can't work as fast as I once did. I don't know why she never took the car back to them for a fix since they apparently F***ed things up but you know women, it's always the mans fault. I'll checked connectors and stuff and reply. As I remember, the relays are very hard to get to, way back in the back of the fuse box whereas the fuses are easily accessible.
Do the relays just unplug or is there a special tool required?
    thanks, Jim L.

    Hi Lee,
You've been most helpful. It looks as though we're just going to take it to the dealer for diagnosis and repair. I'm disabled and can't get to the fuse block under the dash. I have the necessary multimeter to test the voltage but just can't do the job, I tried once and couldn't get the relays out of the block. It's frustrating. I'm going to accept your solution, you have been most thorough and courteous. It's a bummer that I can't do what I have to do on my end.-Thanks, Jim

This tech was most helpful and thorough in suggesting the solution to my problem. He even went so far as to include the schematics and diagrams for the fuse block with the offending relays highlighted. Unfortunately, I couldn't get to the fuse block but at least I know what fuses or relays are probably defective or blown so I'll know if the ford-mercury dealership is ripping me a new one. Thanks Lee, a job well done!

The breaker box under the hood contains your fuses and breakers for the window motors, It should anyway. It is near the battery. Check them out, then check under the dash, I wouldn't worry about which one it is, I would check all of them. If you can't find a blown fuse, take the switch panel right out of the door, let it hang by it's wires, pull the plug on the incoming wires, should be 2, 3, or 4 wires, get out your tester, put it on 12v and turn on the key, put the red lead in one of them holes and the black lead on a screw somewhere, check them all, if you have juice, then the fault is in the switch, you can clean these things up, I did all of mine. But it is tricky. Before you do this, take a hot wire and jump the switch to the motor and see if the window will move. Then you know for sure. A lot of times the door gets wet when it rains and corrodes the whole switch, and nothing works. I had to clean all the contacts in my truck, but I got them working. You might find a used on on ebay. Check it out, hope this helps.

  1. If the inspection reveals obvious concerns that can be readily identified, repair as required.
  1. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the scan tool menu. If the scan tool does not power up:
    • check that the program card is properly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
If the scan tool still does not power up, refer to the scan tool manual.
  1. Perform the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST using the scan tool. If the scan tool responds with:
    • CKT 914 or CKT 915 = ALL MODULE NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to Communication Diagnostics in Section 418-00 to diagnose the network concern.
    • NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the driver door module (DDM), go to Pinpoint Test A.
    • If the DDM is not listed for a communication concern, turn the ignition switch to RUN, make sure all doors are closed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, then execute the Self Test Diagnostics for the DDM. If the DDM exits diagnostic state during the self-test and returns to normal operation state, go to Pinpoint Test A.
  1. If the DDM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Driver Door Module (DDM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue the diagnostics.
  1. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue the diagnostics.
Do you know what a DTC is diagnostic trouble code ?

Olds aurora 1999 all four power windows quit working at one time. power sunroof still works.

Then you have two possibilities. First, most likely. Wires have broken. Open the drivers door and at the front you will see a rubber boot from the frame to the door. This is where the wires like to break. Second would be the master switch failed. I have replaced one or two(in 30 years) that the switch completely died. Usually just one or two windows quit working.

Power window not working in 2002 Chevy Prizm

Sir , i kindly request you to check your battery water levels . If levels are fine kindly check for battery charge , you may do this by checking for brightness of your headlight beams . Now you may check if it takes longer sounding to get your engine started to idle .
Well if All the power windows are not working , Then its just the fault with wiring or fuses . You may check the fuses according to the fuse diagrams given on your vehicles owners manual . So replacing the fuses would get you happy .
If that dint work well , check for any wires cut or damaged , from the linkage between the door and cars body , which can be seen when the doors are opened to full angles. ie, check at the hinges part for cut off wires ..
If one or more windows are only the ones which don't work ,then it should be the least of all possibilities that your power window motor have been damaged or needs to be repaired or , there is a motor driver circuitry for each window which might have got damaged . You may see the circuit if you take off the side panel on the doors.
Thanking You , Dixon Dominic

Power windows suddenly stopped working on all 4 doors. Been like that for 2 days. Don't see a fuse for the windows. Made sure that wires were completely in place in the plug on the doors. Still...

the power windows are on a circuit breaker.

Sounds like the drivers master switch might be bad. If you have a test light and/or a volt meter I would be happy to give you some info on figuring it out.

Driver side power window stopped working

Hello,

you should check the fuses first, (you will find a table and diagram in your owner´s manual) although I don´t think that it has to be fuse, the problem will be the switch or the power window motor itself.

So please check the wiring between the door and the body for damaged isolations etc. as well.

Power windows stopped working

If the power to the illumination and the switches is out in the door, I would say it is a broken wire in the A-pillar to the door on the driver's side.

This is a Light Blue w/ Black stripe wire, it powers both the illumination and the windows themselves.
