The heat/vent blend door that is located inside of the HVAC system behind dash..Rarely it is the control however it could be....Some of the vent door issues are recalls on certain vehicles."Also Blend vent door actuators that operate the doors can become inoperable...If it is the door inside the HVAC it will probably take about 8 hours to repair...Most vent doors either stick shut and or break..as well as actuators....Only a Dealer Scanner can tell exactly where the problem is.....
the vent adjusting knob/switch has probably lost its connection to the vent adjuster have to strip out the area round heater controls a check the vent operation
Check your vacuum lines going into the car from the engine compartment dodge have really bad issues with this, could also be vacuum control valve behind dash on evap box.
1-check the vent door actuator while you turning the knob from the (vent/defrost/floor) if its not changing the directions and you hear clanking or plastic gear rubbing ..then that's the actuator broken
2-turn the knob again same above and if you don't hear the sound of the actuator ..then you have the climate control unit is defected if its
Digital control unit .
It sounds like you have two problems. First a question though; Is your heating and air conditioning control on the dash automatic (has two knobs that rotate and a display screen in the middle), or manual (has two levers that move up and down for driver/passenger temp and a separate fan knob and mode knob).
In response to the vents being stuck on defrost and floor, from experience i can say that the most likely cause is the mode actuator has failed. If your battery has recently gone dead, that could have brought the problem to the surface. When the battery has gone dead, the heating and air conditioning controls relearn all the positions of the actuators behind the dash when the vehicle has been re-started. If there is a position sensor failing (which happens quite often) in one of the actuators, the heating and air conditioning controls won't be able to learn the correct position of the actuator and (in your case) defaults to the defrost/floor position.
The only way to fix that would be to replace the actuator. I would like to know what type of heating and air conditioning controls you have (manual or automatic) before i say anything on the blower only working on 5.
you are sure the knob is not stripped right ....it all runs on vacuum look underneath and ensure they are all attached to the cluster on the knob as well check the vent itself and that the cable is not kinked preventing operation ..passengers side upper corner
you need to check the control wire is`nt broken most likely come out from flap connection just reconnect and it will work again, check the flap affected for free movement as could be jamming.
There is a vacuum leak under the hood. Find the vacuum line on the passenger side where it comes through the firewall and follow it to the engine. You system needs vacuum to operate and without it the default setting is on defrost for safety reasons.
i had a simmiler problem on my 95 chevy pick up. on mine it would not chg. from floor to defrost, no matter where i put the selector. with mine it was the controls. if you go under solutions for k1500chevy gmc trucks it should tell you what your problem is, or give you an idea whats going on with yours.
