Question about 2004 Kia Rio

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Kia Spectra. I needed a jump-start, went to a nearby garage and had the battery replaced although the old battery was fairly new. It appeared that the alternator was at fault because it was draining the battery. I had a new alternator installed at a KIA shop. I drove the car w/o problems for a day and parked it overnight. Next norming, it did not start, did not even make the slightes sound. The KIA shop that installed the alternator told me that their mechanic noticed that the battery was "at zero" - not sure of the correct term here. The garage where I bought the battery said to bring it in for a replacement. I managed to remove the clamps form either side of the battery but the battery does not move from the spot. Do I have to force it out or can I take a wrench and gently wedge it between the back that seems solid and the battery wall?

If you live in a hot area such as Florida, look up the service bulletin concerning replacing the alternator with a 100 amp one instead of the 80 or 70. My grandson has the same problem and I will find out more tomorrow. The bulletin was issued in September 2004.

My 2004 kia spectra will not start, even when i replaced a new starter

Did you replace the starter yourself or have a garage do it? It sounds like the starter gear is not aligned properly with the ring gear on the engine. Sometimes a 'shim' is needed to make them align. Compare the old starter with the new one to see they are exact or is if a shim fell off when removing the old.

I went to start my 2002 kis spectra and all the lights came on but the car itself didnt start i got a jump and it started but im not sure it that was the problem

Hi,
Sounds like a flat battery to me. A battery can have enough voltage to illuminate all your warning lights, but not enough current to turn starter. Maybe an idea to take to your nearest tyre/battery centre and get them to test it with a load tester. Hope this helps.
