Question about 2000 Audi A6

A/C inop., Heat on all the time, No vent movement

A/C compresser not kicking on at all. Freon pressure is around 90 psi. Hooked A/C compresser clutch to direct power. Everything seemed to be working ok after I pinched off heater hoses at firewall. Notice air flow mostly going out defrost vent. Removed glove box and found no vent motors turning. But everything on climate control working. (lights, degrees, ect.) Is there a specific control Module just for climate control functions?

Freon was low, the clutch would not stay in very long while trying to add the freon, I continued to put the freon in at a slow pace, after about 18 oz. the clutch did kick in and stayed in through out the...

Sounds like the freon was pretty low.The pressure readings are pretty low indicating possibly a weak compressor or freon is still low. Does this have rear ac as well?l You probably should have evacutated the system and put it into a vacuum. A very useful tool would be to inject a uv dye oil charge into the system and let it run with the ac still cycling which can still be done prior to evacuation. If there any leaks present the dye will seep out the leak and be easily detectable with a uv light.

My 1995 gran marquis is blowing hot hot air when i turn on ac can you tell me why?

Your going to have to check that the compressor is turning the clutch (center of the pulley) get a set of A/C gauges and check for any freon in the system (static test) high pressure side should read above 200 psi, remove the low pressure cut out switch electrical connector and place a jumper wire between the two wires, this should activate the compressor, the gauges will now tell you how much freon is in the system, the high side needs to read 150 PSI to activate the cooling fans, place a temp gauge in the cener inside vent, place the fan on low, temp coming out of the vent should read around 45-50 at idle, now if you have to add freon that means you have a leak, put dye in the system, and check for leaks.

AC blows warm. fan + compressor don't seem to engage.

The system could be low on refrigerant. The A/C pressure switch will not let the compressor run if the system pressure is below 28psi or above 455psi to protect the compressor from damage. At low pressures not enough oil (mixed in with the refrigerant) will circulate, and at high pressures, the compressor seals will likely blow. You can get a set of A/C manifold gauges for R-134a and check the system pressures yourself or get a shop to check it and possibly add some R-134a. If the system pressure checks good, then the A/C pressure switch, the compressor clutch, or some relays will need to be checked.

How many pounds of r134 and how much oil ozs.

somewhere around 1.6 pounds (1lb.14ounces) of R134a if system is evacuated and 3 ounces of oil with new compressor.
keep pressure on the low side around 34-37psi & it should blow snow. Below are normal car AC pressure readings with 134A.
  • Normal readings on high and low side with AC OFF (static pressure) – Depends on outside temperature, but normally is between 80-105 PSI
  • Normal low side reading with AC on high speed and MAX & engine at 800-1000 RPM’s – Ranges from 25-35 PSI –
  • Normal high side reading ranges from 200-350 PSI
Don’t assume that if adding little Freon is good that adding a lot is better! Overcharging just a little can decrease the performance of the system and possibly damage the compressor.
DIY recharge kit:
With the AC on the coldest setting, use a thermometer in a middle vent. Normal vent temperature readings will vary depending on the (ambient) outside temp. The vent temperature should range from around 42-55 degrees in my experience. If normal gauge readings are obtained and the vent air is cold – STOP don’t overcharge the system.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

My 99 s10 blazer has ac problems. i tried to fill the refrigerant and the psi bounces between 55 and 20, it starts at 20 the builds to 55, then the clutch kicks on and the psi drops back dowm to 20. this...

I'm assuming that's the high side pressure reading. It sounds like you don't have enough refrigerant in there still. Depending on outside temperature the high should be around 130-150 and the low side between 25 - 30 or so with the compressor clutch engaged. Once you connect the can to the low side you'll have to start the car and turn the a/c on to get more in there until the pressure readings are correct.

1998 olds A/C will only cool on the highway and at idle get warm? i have hooked up a gauge ti the low side and it reads about 100 psi. i have tried to add freon but it wont take. i cannot hear the clutch....

ur gass reading is good....
but on my view ur gas expires have u got reading when it pumped.after more than 2 year the gas is expires and doesnot coolling well.. as u says that at highway it cools when the engine get average race the compressor also race upon the engine and get compression right(at high speed) but at low average speed it not work because the gas doesnot compress properly due to gas expiry.....
check new gas......i think u r compressor is good enough if it cools at any time....if compressor dead then it doesnot coll at any time....because the compression valve varssuls are down at bottom......

i think my idea will healp u...good luck.

My ac compressor on my 95 audi 90 turns on and off continually, and does not blow cold. does it just need a recharge, or could it be more?

How may miles is on the car?

Get an AC LOW SIDE psi garage and check on the LOW SIDE hose PSI.

MAKE SURE IT"S LOW SIDE.

High side can shoot up to 140 +++ PSI

BE CARE REAL CAREFUL

If it has 45+ PSI then do a charge with the auto part store R-134A kit.

If it's below 45 psi then you has a slow leak. Fill up will be last only hours or weeks.

Fix it right and be good to our environment.

You will have to have a puller for removing it,you can get at auto parts, no very expensive remove the belt remove the nut on front of pulley and use the puller, you dont have to take out the freon. replace and tighten nut to pull new pully in place
