Question about 1992 Nissan Maxima

2 Answers

My 92 maxima is sputtering when I accelerate after the engine is heated up if I give it to much gas it sounds like I am using an exhaust brake and it feels like I am bogged down. It does not do this when the engine is still cold

Hi!!
Start by checking the fuel lines for kinks, lift the vehicle, start it up, an let it run until it stops, meanwhile, check the Cat. Converter, it may be defective, DO NOT TOUCH IT, it may get cherry red but with daylight you may not notice it.
Test the fuel pressure at the same time, fuel pumps also fail when hot. Place some towels under the fuel service port to trap gas when connecting tester.
Check cooling system for leaks and look for broken wires under vehicle.
Keep me posted!

Take the throttle body off ,clean it with carburator cleaner. I also check/replace the coolant temperature sensor.

Remove the IAC Solenoid and have wipe it clean with a rag wet with Carb. Cleaner, a look if there is a trace of coolant inside the throttle body in that case you gonna have to replace the IAC Solenoid. Wrap the rag on a pen or pencil and clean the solenoid's housing, specially the far end. Do not spray carb cleaner directly to solenoid.

Hi,

This looks likes a common problem with the Nissan Maxima. I am sure there are codes to see if the computer is storing any codes. You can go to AutoZone or Oriellys or call you local parts store to see if they can read the codes or have a code scanner you can use in the parking lot. Both aforementioned parts stores do have the scanner for public use. I have found that in a vast majority of cases in the Nissan that the MAP ( Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor) is the cause for this issue. Another cause could also be a partially plugged fuel filter, low fuel pressure, clogged air filter or faulty TPS (Throttle Position Sensor).

Do get back to us for any further query and do not forget to accept it.

Starts up, can give it gas, but won't accelerate?

Could be. Or the fuel pressure is low, or something is blocking the exhaust or air intake.

Acts like it isn't getting fuel, chokes out

Hello,

Do you have an engine light? Throwing a code?
Just does this at idle or when driving/acceleration?
Acting strange changing symptoms (E.G.--idle to acceleration to black smoke out exhaust, etc.)? Plenty of Gas in tank?

I am thinking: No engine light
Clog in fuel filter
intermittent fuel pump problem
A vehicle starting sensor (E.G.--Throttle Position Sensor (TPS))
Main computer
Engine Light: Pull Code
Sensor

I hope this helps.

Why is my car messing up

Obviously its problem with your fuel to air mixture. It is building up unburnt fuel due to not enough oxygen. This lack of enough oxygen will cause the stalls and the build up of gas will cause the backfires. Heat affects the mixture ratio. A number of detector are involved in the exhaust system and any one of them could be failing. Throttle Position Sensors, MAP sensor, Oxygen sensors, catalytic converter, etc. You should be getting the check engine light coming on also. Any auto parts place can read you the code numbers for free. They will provide more specific information about failing parts.

1991 Nissan maxima hesitates

Best guess is O2 sensor is reading too much unburned fue in the exhaust for some reason and leaning out the fuel flow to compensate. Runs when you throw more throttle at it but leans out as you try to hold steady speed. Should throw a code though.

92 Nissan Stanza sputtering and stall

You may have frozen fuel lines. Sounds like not enough fuel is getting to the engine. You may need to bleed the system and change fuel pump, fuel filter and check the injectors
