Question about 1996 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

My 1996 dodge intrepid stops running while I'm driving. The problem isn't electrical it has to do with the fuel system. I can coast to the side of the road, wait a minute or two and it will eventually start running again.

Sounds like its flooding, check the MAP sensor, and if there is a flap in the intake that is stuck partially open.

Repacing fuel filter on 1996 intrepid

1) Relieve the fuel system pressure by first removing the fuel pump relay from the Power Distribution Center. Then, start the engine and let it to run until it stalls. Try starting it again and allow it to run until it stalls. Continue restarting the engine until the car will no longer start. Turn off the ignition.
2) Disconnect one electrical connector from an injector. Use an alligator clip to connect an end of a jumper wire to either injector terminal. Connect the other end of the jumper wire to the positive side of the battery. Then, connect an end of a second jumper wire to the other injector terminal. Very briefly touch the other end of the jumper wire to a ground.
3) Locate the fuel filter, which is part of the fuel pressure regulator mounted on the fuel pump module. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then lower the fuel tank. Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter.
4) Remove the fuel line from the pressure regulator. Remove the filter/regulator by pushing in on the locking tab on the filter as you turn the regulator to unlock it. Then, pull it straight up.
5) Push the new fuel filter into the fuel pump module. Turn to lock it in place. Connect the fuel lines, and then you can reinstall the fuel tank. Check for leaks when you start the engine on your Dodge Intrepid.

1996 intrepid was hard to start over the last week or two like it needed fuel . then today it just stopped turns over and tried a different crankshaft censer any help will be appreciated

More info would be helpful. Any codes popping up? Start from there and if codes, then that will point the direction you need to take. I have a 1996 Intrepid 3.5 and a quick guess is that you have a fuel delivery problem. Either faulty fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator or fuel line issues. Sounds like maybe an EGR valve problem too? All cars with over 100K miles have carbon and sludge in the EGR system which includes the pipe, passage from the egr valve to the intake and intake manifold. You might have a simple carbon issue. So, remove the IAC and clean the **** out of it with carb cleaner. You will be surprised how dirty it is. This is a 15 minute job. The IAC controls airflow and if the pintle is not moving per the ECM due to carbon, then it will start and run rough. Could be that your IAC needs to be replaced. Need more info here from you.

1996 dodge neon has gas but no spark i change the ignition coil but still wont start what could it be is it the crank sensor or fuse

If there isn’t a spark then check Electrical system, or check the gas system from the injectors up to fuel pump. Do not forget the fuel filter ….

My Intrepid will intermently just stop running. I

Possible cause would be the fuel pump or a faulty fuel filter on car. Also check for a loose connection on the battery (ground connection). Or a loose wire to the fuel pump. Try this and if nothing found to cause the problem send a message again and explain a little more in detail. Hope this will help.

My 1996 dodge intrepid, while driving, will stop, just like turning the key off. all gauges go haywire. when the vehicle stands for about an hour it will restart fine.

This may be a wiring issue since electrical are affected other than the engine. Inspect the wiring harness first for loose connections or wires that may have open insulator or bad wires that needs replacing.

Car engine just stopped running - out of the blue, no warning.

First thing is to check all the fuses...next would be to look for a burned wire....in the harness that runs behinf the engine.

1996 Dodge Intrepid with a 3.3L engine that won't run!!!

great you got it running... who would have dreamed someone would have filled the car with the wrong gas. E85 has alcohol in it. it will dry out and decay certain plastic and rubber type parts in the fuel system if the car was not made for this type fuel.

96 Dodge Intrepid ES, engine stalls

Find your firewall electrical junction block (where all the wires enter the cabin on the passenger side) and with a zip tie pull up the wire bundle so it does not ride on the upper tie rods and, fasten the zip tie to anything that is solid in the engine compartment and, let me know what happens
