Is this one of the greatest vehicles of all time or what? Well over 300,000 miles and still have 175 lbs. compression all 4 cylinders - not 1 lb difference and 28-30 MPG to boot. That's why they stopped making the Z24i :).
Are you talking about the lights themselves, or the brake indicator on the dash for the parking/emergency brake? If it's the latter, the mechanism underneath is probably rusted up to the point the sprint doesn't have enough grunt to fully retract the cable after you release the parking brake. Otherwise, check the switch for the brake lights down my the brake pedal.
Sounds like brake light switch has gone bad. It's just above brake pedal under dash. Small plastic switch with a couple wires coming from it. Simple fix.
There might be to different issues, the emergency brake switch is broken ,normally is located in the end of the handle, or the brake fluid reservoir is below the mark either due to a leak or wear in the brake linen,
some nissans have a rubber plug on the metal part of the brake pedal look under the dash where the the pedal arm meets the brake light switch if there is a hole ther the plug has fallen out to make sure find the brake switch and manually push the plunger on the switch in have an assitant see if the brake lights go off if they do you will need to replace the rubber insert there will be a hole in the brake pedal arm where it goes
my friend you are opening a can of worms
remenber that the shafts and rear end are where everything goes and also the emergency brakes are... I would think twice before proceeding ( But what do I know)
