My 05 Escape: When it shift from 3rd to 4th gear is shifts hard and it feels like it is sticking. but the kicker with that is that my theft light will appear and stay on for 5 seconds or so and go off. i think it is something with the computer in the truck. my mechanic hooks it up to his scanner and no codes come up and when my truck does this it has been like every 2 weeks or so it hasn't been everyday

I had a similar problem with my 1997 F250 only with 1st & 2nd gear. At the same time the ABS light was on and the speedometer was acting eratic. In my case it was a bad speed sensor on the rear differential. About $30.00 and took me less than 15 minutes to fix.

I'm assuming you have already looked at the trans for any loose or worn electrical or vacuum lines and connections.

If it's still under warranty, don't mess with it and say no more than it is shiftingr eal hard.

umm more info would be very helpful is this a gas or deisel truck ? almost sound like a intermitent misfire creating a vibration throught the trans ? when was your last tune up ? maybe your clutch is slipping ? more info would be awesome :)

check all fuses first ... if that doesn't help, disconnect both battery cables and leave disconnected overnight .... sometimes that will reset the system (i kow for a fact it will on dodge and chrysler and i have heard it will on fords too)

check or replace your thottle position sensor tps that trans needs to know where the throttle is to shift if it is bad it will do as you say wont shift to third
another telltale is it will act like it goes into lockup when shifting into reverse and stall the engine
