3.3L Engine

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Fig. 1: Disconnect the negative battery cable starter diagram for a 1994 - 88172g31.gif

  2. Remove the three bolts attaching the starter to the engine/transaxle. Fig. 2: Remove the three starter mounting bolts 88172g32.gif
    CAUTION
    Be careful when removing the starter motor mounting bolts, the motor can be quite heavy. Personal injury could result if the starter motor falls from its mounting position.
  3. Remove the starter from the the transmission housing. Position the starter to gain access to the wiring connectors.
  4. Remove the battery positive cable nut from the starter and remove the cable. Fig. 3: Remove the battery positive cable nut from the starter and remove the cable 88172g33.gif

  5. Disconnect the push on solenoid connector.
  6. Remove the starter from the vehicle. To install:
  7. Clean all wire terminals of dirt, grease or corrosion.
  8. Attach the electrical wire connectors and secure with the mounting nuts. Tighten the starter solenoid B+ nut to 90 inch lbs. (10 Nm) and the solenoid wire-to-starter nut to 55 inch lbs. (6 Nm).
  9. Hold the starter motor in place, then secure in place with the 3 attaching bolts. Tighten the bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Connect the negative (-) battery cable.
3.5L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. For easier servicing, do not remove the wiring from the starter motor at this time.
  4. Remove the three bolts attaching the starter to the engine. Fig. 4: Remove the three bolts attaching the starter to the engine 88172g34.gif

  5. Remove the starter solenoid assembly from the transfer housing. Position the starter to gain access to the wiring connectors.
  6. Remove the battery positive cable nut from starter and remove the cable.
  7. Disconnect the push on solenoid connector.
  8. Remove the starter from the vehicle. To install:
  9. Clean all wire terminals of dirt, grease or corrosion.

    I'm sorry, but when I try to copy and paste the electrical schematics onto fixya.com's website, it doesn't work.

    I would refer you to a chilton or haynes manual in order to view that information, or subscribe to Alldata.com or Repairpath.com.

Starter is likely to be bad if the starter has power from the battery and ignition and starter switch to solenoid.

clicking in the fusebox? And the starter could be because you need a new one. or a rebuilt. The clicking is your starter cylinoid.

My 1994 dodge intrepid wont start and my interior lights are flashing what could it be? i tried a newer battery from my van but it still did the same thing so i know its not the battery . it doesnt even...


could be the starter or clean your cables make sure the positive is completely in tact with the starter also try jump starting if the starter is froze the extra powere might break it free

Weak battery or flaky starter solenoid. Check the condition of the wires betwixt the battery and the starter solenoid first. Also check the ground wire(s).
