I think that your best bet is to get a new key and have it encoded with an agent....Best regards Johngee

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 and i changed the starter, crank position sensor, tried a different ignition but the ignition still would not turn the engine over... Im thinking about wiring up a push start...

unless you have the key fob also, you need a new ignition switch, with key fob and key with a chip in it,the switch turns on the fuel pump when the chip is recognized, take it to someone that knows what they are doing, you CANNOT hotwire it.

I have a 1999 Z-71, 5.3 litre with 219,000 miles on it. Never had any trouble out of the truck until recently when it quit running. I can crank it up and it'll run for a second or two, then immedi

1. I would check th crank sensor

2. The key may need to be recoded, the key is special it has a chip in it if you are using a regular key cut at home depot or some where it will turn the engine over but wont start the key has to have the chip it looks like a little metal thing at the head of the key you hold with your thumb.
3.Try with the windows up and the doors locked go to the driver side first and unlock the door with the key this will disarm the anti theft. Good luck

The module may have failed.
The module reads the chip in the key thru the sensor in the lock cylinder.

CHANGED IGNITION SWITCH FUEL PUMP AN FUEL FILTER

I have no idea what kind of car you have but it sounds like you might have a resistor chip in the key and changing the switch you may not have a key with the chip or a right chip in it.
The theft light being on sounds like it has shut down the fuel pump.
You can have your key resistance checked and put a resistor in the computer to match.
Is yours a Cady?

Ran out of gas, now wont start

if it was out of gas completely, after filling with at least 5 gal, turn key on, without starting. You will hear pump come on. After pump stops, turn key off. Repeat this procedure three times an the engine should start after the third time.

Let me know,

Chip

When i try to start the car it starts and cuts off after 2 seconds and there is a [pass key] that lits up

sounds like the car has lost programing with the chip thats inside te key.... it may have to go to dealer for reprograming. if there is a remote car starter in the vehicle you may want to overide the bypass and try the key again.

Takes multiple times to start

I think you have a faling fuel pump or a bad pressure regulator allowing fuel pressure to bleed down when the engine is off.
Try this test - When you start the car for the first time of the day, turn the key to "ON", wait a few seconds, turn the key off. Wait about 15 seconds, turn the key to "ON" again, wait a few seconds. Then wait one final time for 1 seconds and try starting the car. If it starts right away, that means fule pressure is bleeding of due to a bad check vavle int he fuel pump, a bad fuel pump or a bad pressure regulator.

The reason for the procedure is because when you turn the key to "ON", the fuel pump runs for 2 seconds and then shuts off if the engine is not running. The 15 seconds wait is for the power and fuel pump relay to cycle off before it will run the pump again.

Let us know how the test comes out. The fuel pump is in the fuel tank and hums when it is running.
