usually when a timing chain jumps the car will not run or sputter it just stops as the the ecm continually compares cam sensor and crank sensor readings for timing purposes.your problem sounds more like a fuel pump problem.have the fuel pressure checked with a gauge it should be in the area of 35lbs pressure.if its like 30 then its too low.also replace the fuel filter.
If you have already replaced the fuel filter, the next thing to check is the fuel pressure. GM vortec engines require 60psi or more of fuel pressure to run.
timing chain or gear common problem, my first one happened in a 1931 model a ford, have had many do that since, i just lost the timing chain in my 1988 ford van, barely runs, wont go....
I have a 1986 325e with high mileage 275,000. Car starts fine and idles ok. I'm experiencing an intermittent problem where when placed in drive the car will sputter, lightly backfire, and not move forward until i pump the gas and give it time to correct whatever is not operating properly. Then it runs just fine. I'm thinking it's an air or fuel issue. Just recently tuned up the car and put some bgk44 after the problem started but still experiencing the same problem.
sounds like a fuel pump problem, one of the times it will not turn over attach a fuel pressure gage to the valve on the fuel line, see if its getting fuel, also if its a cpi injector those go bad all the time as the plastic tubes clog up from heat
I am having the same exact issue right now with my 01 Alero. Been having electrical issues with lights coming on and off. ABS was kicking on a few times even. It started sputtering like it was running out of gas, thought that might have been the case. But after I put gas in it it still didn't start. Now it turns over but nothing. What ended up being wrong with yours?
